Stuck in hold mode?
Hey Everyone,
I have lost some but since my recent complications and hospitalization, I seem to be in a stale holding pattern. I gained weight in the hospital even though all I was on was IV fluids; I know every bag of fluid is 2 lbs, but how long does it take to get rid of it???
I gained 5-6 lbs while in the hospital Mar. 4-7; I have taken most of it off again. But now I seem like I can't lose any more weight signifigantly! I am just beginning to feel human enough to start exercise. I have done 20 minutes on my exercise bike; and a little on the treadmill. I am trying to work up to doing it everyday. I still feel drained; it has been one month and 4 days since my surgery. I had triple complications, septic infection, stricture, and ulcer. Am I expecting to much?? Is there anything I can do to refire my weight loss? What is the average weight loss for after surgery? I hear and read so many stories of how others are losing a lot of weight! I have lost 6 inches around my waist since surgery!!! My daughter measured me the day before surgery, I did it on Thursday and just could not believe it!! That was the one pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for the end on my month.. I appreciate everyone's input and advise. Thanks, Judy R.
That is normal after complications your body is still adjusting to the surgery and with having the stricture and ulcer your body is maintaining because of the complications. Just get in your protein and water and your weight loss will probally kick back in the next couple of weeks. I would not pu**** by over doing it because you can go into malnutrition when you have complications. You need to rest and let your body heal and then the weight loss will start Hugs Tricia
Apparently this is a normal thing. Same thing happened to me when I was 4 -6 weeks out and then all of a sudden, I dropped 12 lbs. Keep measuring...I lost a total of 21 inches in the time I "wasn't" losing. And keep in mind...this is only the first of many to come. I'm learning that. I've had periods of 3 weeks with no losses, then got on the scale and literally overnight 5 lbs...gone. Congrats on your loss so far, and best of luck recovering. You're right on track.

Hi Judy-you just need to keep doing what you are doing......your body has been thru alot and it is going to try to retain for a while to make sure it doesnt go into a deficit.....once it feels like all is well the weight will move.....dont get discouraged--just do what you are supposed to--dont try not to eat or not get enough fluids...that will only make the process longer.........just keep on keepin on! hug rae
