What to Eat Now........
I'm going on 5 weeks from the surgery date. Once in my pouch, everything is processing fine.
I need to keep my protein intake up and I'm having a hard time finding proteins that I want to eat. I was a big meat eater prior to the surgery. Taking supplemental protein, shakes and "New-Whey" protein shots. I would rather have too much rather than too little.
What are some of the foods that you have eaten at this stage? Chicken gives me a little problem, most of the times it's too dry. I have eaten enough tuna fish

I would eat scrambled eggs or boiled eggs mashed up. I also ate chili quite a bit. That's all I can think of right now but if I think of something else I will reply again.

Hey Marc,
I am 5 weeks post op too. I am having some trouble with protein as well. I have heard can chicken like tuna is good; and I have had tender sliced turkey breast from the deli (it goes ok)! I also eat scrambled eggs, white fish baked, and refried beans.
I still get sic****asionally! I can't handle protein mixed in shakes or milk; the thickness makes me ill.. Have you found a good protein drink that is not to thick??? How are you doing on losing? I have lost 20 some lbs since my surgery. I have lost over 5 inches from my waist. I have also tried some sliced chicken breast as well. I wish you luck.. My surgery was Feb 5th; when was yours. Hope you continue to do well.. Sincerely, Judy R
Thanks for the reply Judy..
I guess I like variety.. right now I'm eating chili and refried beans. There is also a good seafood spread that is not high in sugar or fat.
I was big into cooking, many of you may have been as well. I still watch the food network, doesn't bother me yet. I really like the variety and the spice
I have lost quite a bit of weight.. 60 lbs to date. From 299 to 239 and I'm feeling pretty good.
Last week my wife thought I looked a little jaundice, took blood tests and everything came back tip-top.
I did fall and break my ankle, I became dizzy, not drinking enough water. This has put any exercise on hold for at least two weeks.
Thanks for your advice.. you are doing great!

Hi Marc,
I owe you some ideas, but when I think back to 5 weeks post op, I was still feeling kind of yucky so I didn't want to eat much.
Special K makes a protein flake cereal that's pretty good with skim milk.
I also mix Any Whey powder with no sugar added hot coca and then add lukewarmish skim milk. Yum. It beats the heck out of a thick chalky shake any day.
Refried beans with lowfat cheese were my best friend. I added a little salsa (watch for sugar!) just for taste.
I also made gravy by whisking equal parts Smart Balance spread with whole wheat flour over low heat. Whisk in chicken broth until you find a consistancy you like. Add a little poultry seasoning. Now this "gravy" is just extra calories, so use it sparingly, but it makes heated up deli turkey go down a lot easier.
Chili & cheese omelets are also good, if you like that kind of thing.
It will get easier as time goes by!
Hi Marc!
How about cottage cheese? Maybe try some salmon, hard boiled eggs were good for me. For some reason scrambled eggs were hard for me to eat. Low fat cheese????? I did a lot of protein drinks. I found thinner shakes - much easier to get down. The Profect tubes are great, 25 grams of protein and it's only like 3 oz. It was just too hard in the beginning to get my protein grams in by food. I really relied on my supplements. You might need to do that in the beginning. Try to get a product Any Whey, I hear you can add it to just about anything.
Good luck,
Carey
