BCN individual insurance for lap band?

I have decided to do something...I'm thinking of lap band because I'm not 100 lbs overweight. Anyone have Blue Care Network in Michigan? If so, do you have an individual plan and did it cover your surgery? Also, any recommendations for a doctor would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

To be honest with you, you are going to have a really hard time getting any insurance company to cover your surgery due to the fact that you are not 100 pounds overweight. My surgeon really cares about his patients. I don't know if he does lap band though. His name is Marek Lutrzykowski and he is located in Bloomfield Hills. He's a great doctor.

You are going to have a fight on your hands with BCN. You should check with them and see what things they require. I know you have to go to a center of excellence but I don't even know if they willl cover lap band. Stacey B

I know with BCN you have to have alot of co-morbids if you want to get approved with out being a hundred pounds over weight. It took me about 18 months with BCN before I had my WLS and I was a hundred pounds over weight with co-morbids and BCN still gave me a hard time. The positive thing was I had no out of pocket expense. The only thing I paid for was my medication copay. It was well worth it in the end but It took me a while. Good Luck to you Dayja
