Confused about liquid w/meals
I never drink with meals and I wait 30 minutes til after Ive eaten before drinking water because I've been told its bad for us but what about soup? As I was eating homemade chicken noodle soup yesterday I was wondering how that was any differnt than drinking water with more solid foods? Afterall, it gets mushy and soft and so is this "bad"? I certainly dont want to sabotage myself when I have less than 40 lbs to reach goal....and Im at a plateau.....so Im trying REALLY hard to make the most of this!
Thank

I think soup is ok as long as it has some protein in it (like chicken or beef or seafood) and you're not just drinking a lot of broth. Good, healthy soup is a great meal.
I sip water with my meals, and I do fine as far as the pouch is concerned. I just don't "chug" liquids after every bite like I used to.
There is nothing "bad" about soup. Keep track of how long you feel full after eating it to see if it's a good choice for you.
According to my surgeon and my NUT, the reason we should not drink liquids, including thin soups with our meals is this: The fluid fills our pouch, we get too full and can't get in the protein we need. If you drink 3 ounces of broth first, you won't be able to get in your 3 ounces of meat or fish. I was "trained" to eat the highest protein content foods first, then the veggies, then any starches and fats. In that order. Usually, by the time I get the fish or chicken down, I have enough room for a bit of veggie...just a couple of bites. I don't even put the taters or pasta or whatever on my plate. I can never eat it. It has no nutritional value to me now anyways.
