When i had my gallbladder out i had to stay in the hospital a week before the surgery and was on liquids only because my enzymes were so high. I was on some i.v. meds too but i'm not sure what it was. Did your doctor say why it was so high? I don't know if it has anything to do with your gallbladder or not, have you had any problems with it? Hugs Linda

Hi Barb, I am not positive but I think that when you have high enzymes in the liver it is because you are intaking to many saturated fats, I am not positive, but you might try to Google the question, or check MedMD. Good luck to you. Take care---Toni

toni, hi, all i eat is high protein drinks and some pure protein bars and fat free cottage cheese i can't tolerate any kind of meat and i am 7 months out. all meat no matter how moist or how i cook it makes me sick and i chew it really, really good. it feels like it gets stuck in my chest and i get gas pains so bad i have to make myself throw up. my dr. doesn't think it is a stricture. thanks barb

When you lose a lot of weight quickly this can happen. I was having gallbladder attacks and my enzymes were so high they had to wait to remove my gallbladder so I was in the hospital over a week. Are you having attacks or was the test the first indication anything was wrong? They may not want to do surgery unless you are having pain. Holly W

My bloodwork also showed that my liver enzymes were high. This started back in October, at the time I was 6 mos out from surgery. I was sent for a abdominal ultrasound which showed I had gallbladder sludge. They say this can happen from rapid weight loss. Since then my liver enzymes have been coming down. Other then the bloodwork showing the liver enzymes high I never had or have any pain or any other symptoms of problems with the gallbladder. if you aren't having any pain then I wouldn't worry about it, and wait and see what your next bloodwork shows. I am hoping my next labs will show it back to normal. Good luck, DeAnn

Hello Barbara, I don't know about the meat problem, have you talked w/ your doc about that???? I do know my enzymes have come down every month. As my weight loss has slowed down they have come down. So I do believe it was from rapid weight loss and all that fat & gook going thru the liver. I hope all goes good for you. Keep trying different meats......... the 1st 3mos after surgery ground beef, shrimp& fish seemed to be the only thing I could handle. I just started being able to handle chicken this past month. Good Luck to you. DeAnn

Your liver is basically a big filter. As you are loosing weight it is working overtime to filter all the fat and gunk out of your system. Your levels will come down slowly but surely - I don't know if two weeks will be enough time to show a difference - maybe. If you aren't having any pains, I wouldn't mess with taking the gallbladder or any additional medication. As far as not eating chicken - that may just be you now. You may not be able to handle it yet. Give it a few days/weeks and try it again. *Of course - don't take my medical opinion over any professional advice!*
