A leak test is that they give you some chalky liquid to drink and see if your new pouch has any leaks around the inscisions. They take an xray to see if it leaks or not. You usually get to drink after this test is done. Woooohooooooooooooo time is flying for you!!!!! Will be you I am posting about next!!!!! Woooooooohooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 12 more days!!!!!!!!!! Hugs Judy

It depends on your surgeon. Some don't give the test. Mine didn't. He said that the risk of leaks were so low that they rarely do them. There are also other ways to tell if you have a leak, i.e. fever or excessive pain. You should ask your surgeon before surgery if he does them. Hope that helps.

Dr. Kemmeter's % of leaks is something like 1.8% after doing more than 700 surgeries. Neither my husband nor myself had one.

Well, still that is a 1.8% chance I don't want to take...why wait to see if you have a fever or pain and then say oh you have a leak when they can detect it the next day....just my thoughts...

If Dr.Kam is doing your surgery, he does a leak test. It is the morning following your surgery. They will have you walk from your room to the x-ray room. Just like Judy said you will drink a small amount of icky tasting stuff. It's kind of scary cuz it's the first fluid you will drink, I was kind of worried if it would hurt, -- it didn't! I was a bit nauseous before walking to the x-ray, so they gave me some med's in my IV and I was good to go. I know this is more than you asked, but I know I appreciated any and all info and since we have the same surgeon......
