What this site has led to....
... a wedding!
When i first met Melanie, "hockeyhottie" here on one of the boards on this site, i was so excited to find someone who knew and loved the kind of music that i did. We started talking about early REM and the English Beat. Squeeze. XTC. Bauhaus. Elvis Costello. Pavement. Robyn Hitch**** The Jam. The Ramones. NiN. Even The Who and early Genesis (Peter Gabriel).
At first that was both of our's only interest in each other. Neither of us were looking for romance at the time. But i was excited about possible friendship and I did that silly little thing about sharing the then unreleased White Stripes album to try to get her to talk to me off the board. and it worked lol. (come to find out later she doesn't even love the Stripes like i do hahah) We just kept talking about rock and roll until eventually we realized, and even later finally admitted to each other that feelings were developing.
She visited me in Florida, I visited her here in Michigan.
It didn't take too long before we fell in love. I moved to Michigan in December 2005 and in July 2006 we moved in together. November 15th 2006 were were engaged to be married.
Well now we've set our date.
We're to be married on September 8th, 2007. At the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
Let me repeat that: AT THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME!!
The hall will be closed to all but our guests on Friday night for our rehearsal and Saturday night for our wedding! For reasons some of you heard about, the Rock Hall has offered us this wonderful venue and also arranged for our wedding to be fully catered by "Executive Caterers" ( http://www.executivecaterers.com/ ) They literally ROCK to the extreme. They are some of the nicest people with whom i've ever dealt.
I can't think of a more perfect place for us to be wed. I am extremely excited. Our wedding will be held in a place filled with memorabilia of our idols. The venue will commemorate the love of music that brought us together.
The hall is a BEAUTIFUL building designed by I. M. Pei who also designed the Pyramids of the Louvre, the Museum of Modern Art in Athens, and the newly opened Four Seasons Hotel in midtown Manhattan as well as many other famous buildings. As the rock hall words it: "Designed by the world-renowned architect I.M. Pei, our glass monument to the history of rock and roll presents a stunning harbor-side sweep of the city and lakefront and soars 160 feet above Lake Erie."
Anyone interested in what it will be like might be interested by this brochure: http://www.rockhall.com/downloads/rent-the-rock.pdf
I owe a world of thanks to Obesity Help for bringing us together. Thanks to all on this board who were so supportive of my move to Michigan. To Paul, and KP and others who offered me support before i even made my move to Michigan, to Vanessa who knew about Mel and I getting together, to Dr. Michael Schuhknecht for improving our health, our looks and being a friend, and most of all to my lovely bride-to-be, Melanie. Thank you to all. We are truly blessed.
That is so totally cool! I am so excited for you and hope that you share pictures of your beautiful event. I am so happy that you both have had a chance at a new life and found love to add icing on the cake! Congrats to you and Melanie! May you both strive in what you wish to concede in and may your love overflow 10 fold!
