Wel, I'm 18 months out and I'm starting to think of plastic surgery. Can anyone tell me what they paid for a tummy tuck and breast lift?? The tummy tuck MIGHT be covered but I know the breast lift will most likely not.

I was quoted 10, 000-15,000 for the tummy tuck and 5500 for the breast lift. But every surgeon is different and some will adjust their price with you for multiple procedures at once. Wendy

The tummy tuck is between $6,000 and $8,000 dollars. I am in a battle with HAP now for a tummy tuck. I lost the first level appeal, and have submitted my request for second level appeal. Make sure you are seeing a dermatologist for any rashes that you have, as that is the ONLY way that they will cover the tummy tuck. You MUST have 6 months with a dermatologist. I am assuming that you still have HAP, and if you changed, then the tummy tuck would be a "pre-existing condition" and the new insurance would most likely not pay anything either. Good luck to you, and wish me luck on my appeals. This is my second time going through the appeal process with HAP on the issue of a tummy tuck, so my patience is running a bit thin. But, I know that eventually I will win. Good Luck. Carol

Carol, I hear you about HAP. I gave them up for Humana Medicare in 2006. because of all the hassles I had with them. You know the crap I went thru and had to finally appeal to the state to get my gastric bypass. I don't have any rashes as of yet, but I do have problems with sweating or having moisture in some of the folds....

While sitting at my surgeon's office recently, some people were discussing this. The one gal said Detroit Burn Clinic will do it free if you donate the excess skin. I don't know what your choices are for which plastic surgeon you'd get, though. Marie

This is an urban legend. It is impractical to donate skin. Here's a link to a site that discusses it: http://www.transweb.org/reference/articles/donation/excess_skin_donation.html

My TT was covered by my insurance but my breast lift and implants cost me $7300. Just make sure you go to a surgeon who deals with bariatric patients because our skin is very stretchy and thin.

I know that money is important but so is your over all outcome !!! Remember you get what you pay for, even with plastic surgeons

I saw on TV that there is a big difference between a cosmetic surgeon and a plastic surgeon. So that is something to consider as well. They also were talking about how its more dangerous to have PS in a separate facility other than a hospital.

Don't have to worry - I want a PS, however, if they have a facility other than a hospital, I would consider it, but would check them out first. The place where I go for my PCP, eye doc and OB/GYN has an out patient surgical center. I had my gall bladder out there.
