OT: Vitamin D deficiency
My PCP recently told me I have a vitamin D deficiency and with my osteoporosis, I need to take 10,000 IU ( international units/measurements) of it per day.
I've looked online at www.vitaminshoppe.com and also www.vitacost.com and can't find anything higher than 2000 IU.
I'm in need of at least 5,000 IU per tablet ....so I don't have to take 10 pills a day.
I've called several pharmacies here and they can't order it for me other than 2000 IU.
Does anyone out there have any ideas (my PCP does have access to 10000 IU but it's 12.00 per bottle for 30 tabs).......I'm price checking and product searching.
Let me know if you have a place you think I can get it from.
Gnc also doesn't carry that high IU. I called them here.
Thanks for the replies!

I can't eat that much Vitamin D
Due to the Osteoporosis is why she wants it so HIGH.
I'm also lactose intolerant so I do not eat much dairy. However, I am trying to find foods rich in Vitamin D but she still wants me to take that much.
Awww...
thanks for the eye comment.
I do like contacts - if for nothing else to buy cool new sunglasses!!

Stacy, find a compounding pharmacy. But, be reassured, that if they tested everybody in Michigan, they would all have a vitamin D deficiency. It is due to the lack of sunlight in the winter. So, now that days are getting longer, take advantage and get out in the sun, and your levels should go up. Carol
What is a compounding pharmacy?
I live in "hooterville USA" so I don't know if there is one here.
Also this all is due to me being on Boniva for my osteoporosis and my PCP recommended it due to my low levels recently.
I can't take the Boniva without taking the other supplements she is recommending or she won't refill it. I also have to take Prilosec OTC two days prior, the day of taking Boniva and two days after due to possible effects with my tummy.
Boniva has NO documentation posted in any medical journal on how it effects WLS people who had RNY according to her so I am trying it out.
Thanks for your reply
Thanks Jay,
but again, this all coincides with me having Osteoporosis and taking Boniva which, has Not been medically studied on WLS patients. Even my WLS surgeon doesn't know what will happen. I am therefore taking a chance to see if this works and part of that process is to take the vitamin D supplements. Otherwise I end up not taking boniva, and having worse case of Osteoporosis possibly.
We don't know. Just don't know. And on a worse note, I don't have a Nut.
I saw her once and they transferred her to another hospital and now the one that is there only works 2 days a week and appointments are 2-3 months out. I called today and can't get in until May. ?????????????
Rat? I am not sure she is the ONLY one who has this. She is the one who has that amount, but said I can find it elsewhere or take more pills. To get in 10000 IU of this vitamin, I would have to take 2-10 pills a day from what I have found. I am not interested in taking 10 pills a day coming from someone who took 19 a day before wls.
Maybe I should start drinking whole milk by the gallon.
Mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Double check which type of Vitamin D you need. I had to add a Vitamin D to my regimen and found out the next week that apparently D3 is the best. Of course I didn't know that and just bought regular VitD. I didn't bother switching - will wait until I run out.
Anyway - check that out to make sure you are helping yourself the best you can.
