apple pie
Hi Rebecca
I heard kroger has a good one, but i haven't tried it. As new out as you are, you really should only be putting nutrition into your mouth. Even though it is sf, it's still junk and not a good choice. I'm not trying to be mean, i just don't want you to set yourself up for failure. Anyway if you do eat it, don't do it often.
Hugs
Linda
Yeah, me too!! Besides, if I'm going to eat something non-nutritious it's NOT going to be icky sugarfree stuff that bloats me up and gives me horrible gas for three days..... I'm going for the GOOD stuff - Cadburry Egg!!!! (well, maybe a nibble off of dh's cadburry egg anyway) ROFL!!!!
Rebecca - THIS IS NOT FLAMING, JUST MY OPINION: only being a few months out of surgery I'd suggest sticking with the most nutritious foods you can!! Take advantage of the weight loss while you have it available to you. There will be time in the future (like at goal) to test things and endulge in things.
That said; I know its a holiday weekend and a bite or two of sf pie isn't going to make or break you. The real concern here is simply reforming bad habits that got your obese in the first place. Now is the time to form new eatting habits!!
Have a blessed Easter
Laurie
Hi Rebecca,
Meijer's and Krogers both sell sf apple pie, and both are "ok". Beware of sugar alcohols, which almost all sf sweets have. They can have a laxative effect, which is not fun. I get really bad headaches from them.
I know you must be craving sweets, I was too when I was just out of surgery. I agree with Linda, though.
Comstock brand makes a no added sugar apple pie filling. You could make a vanilla protein shake and add just a tablespoon or so of the filling to get that taste. It would be a heck of a lot better than the crust of a sf pie, which is loaded with fat.
You are probably thinking "who the heck are these girls to be lecturing me on what to eat?!?" We've just been there before and want to offer up a little advice.
Kroger sells a good s.f. apple pie and so does Meijer. Honestly I don't recommend getting one. You would be better off fighting the urge to eat it. Maybe eat a fresh apple, a steamed apple, or a baked apple instead. I wish I never would have gone there. I crave sweets now can't seem to get over wanting them. Some people say one bite isn't going to hurt, well I beg to differ. One bite will be the beginning of something you may or may not be able to get control over. I have been talking with a few people about this and we all seem to have the same problem with craving sweets. We all want to stop but like a junkie we keep going back to our addiction. Please save yourself some trouble and don't go there. wishing you the best as you continue on your journey.
God bless,
Annette
I hate to cook, but if I have any "dessert" I make it myself so I know exactly what is in it. Heck I make everything according to what I can eat and everyone loves it or doesn't know the difference. Being as early out as you are, may want to stick to an apple crisp. Use rolled oats,
splenda,
cinnamon
and a little melted butter for the crumble top. I just mix together in a bowl and set aside while I am preparing the apples for the crisp.
Macintoch apples or grannysmith about a 3lb bag. Peel, core and slice apples put them in a 9x13 pan then sprinkle splenda, cinnammon, and a small amount of nutmeg if disired. then stir well. Put a few dabs of butter on the apples and then sprinkle with the crisp topping. Bake at 350 for 45-50 min.
I am sorry I don't have exact measurements for you, I am a throw together kinda cook. I do much better that way....LOL. Try making a small batch first to get a feel of it if you are unsure. I will be totally suprised if your family doesn't LOVE it. It is really simple. Have a great holiday. Happy Easter----Toni

gotta warn you, at your stage something like that would have me stuck and/or puking regardless of the sugar. good luck.
it's kinda early to get back on the desert train. remember, your bypass won't work forever, your body adapts and starts absorbing more calories over time, you have to develop good habits now while it's easy. look around at how many people are a few years out and still pretty heavy. it's up to you.
In answer to your question: Wal-Mart, Kroger, Meijer, and grocery stores with a bakery should, most stand alone bakeries sell them as well.
Sugar Free doesn't mean dump free!! Watch out for sugar alcohols!
I found that out at thanksgiving this last year, had 4 Gerber baby spoon sized bites of Wal-Mart SF pumpkin pie filling, and woooooooooooo Holy Mother of God! I don't touch it now! For me.......... Mailtol, no matter how small the amount and I'm talking to God in my bath tub!
Natural sugars; brown rice syrup, cane sugar etc. I can handle, but I don't have them often if at all. I get enough sweetness from fresh and frozen fruits in my protein shakes.
But good luck to you. Please, if you do try any, moderation kk? *big hugs!*
