BC/BS of Michigan

Hi, I'm from Chicago, but have BCBS of MI. I was just wondering if anyone else has them and how your experience was? It is my understanding that they do not do precertifications and preauthorizations, so I was wondering if anyone had any issues with that? I'd like to hear anyone's experience with them, good or bad. Thanks!!

I had wls 3 yrs ago so things may have changed since then but for me it was like you said no preauthorization was required. I met the requirements of the doctors office and they scheduled the surgery. That was it. Holly W

I have BCBS CB PPO of Michigan, my hubby got the insurance September 1, 2006, I had my surgery November 2,2006. Had no problems at all. The surgeons office had a "fill in the blanks" letter for my PCP to fill in and sign. I did the required medical testing the surgeon required and a psych eval BCBS required and was approved. You shouldn't have any problems

I had the same experiences. No preauthorization needed and as long as I met the requirements, the surgery was taken care of. It took 1 month from start of testing until surgery.

I also have BCBS and have been told that I don't need preauthorization. Just had to do the testing that the program required (ie: psycologist-sp?, sleep study, full physical, etc) and my doctor has to send a letter, basically filling in the blanks (what my weight is, previous diet attempts, BMI, height, any other medical concerns, etc) Other than his letter, I think the rest of my testing is just kept on file. I don't believe any of that (other than the bill, haha) goes to the insurance company. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

I have BC/BS PPO and I have had a very wonderful experience! No precerts or authorizations for me! I went in for my consult in early Feb. had my Psych evaluation late Feb and have Surgery scheduled 4/25/07 with Dr. Kam The length of waiting was entirely my fault I just wanted to get a few health issues resolved and a clean slate on my family history of cancer. So after the letter from the family doc on the weightloss attempts I was home free. As of last accounting I have more wrapped up in co-pays at my family doc than the $500.00 out of pocket at Forest Hosp. Good Luck.

I also have BCBS MI and had my surgery 3/27/2006 I turned in all paperwork had my consult a week later and my surgery within the next week because of a cancellation.. I am now in the begining stages of plastics, I don't know where to even start., but I do know that this year flew by and I am below goal, started at 278 I am now 142 5"7.. so buckle up hopefully everything will be smooth for you...
