Protein
Okay, I know most of you post ops have probably heard this a million times but here goes. Tomorrow it will be two weeks before my surgery. I haven't had my pre op visit yet, but they want me to start my protein. Am I supposed to be on strictly liquid protein? Or am I supposed to not eat carbs and fats and still eat lots of proteins?
As the days go by, I'm sure you will have lots more questions from me.
Thanks,
Joni
You might want to call and ask them, some doctors require a 2 week liquid only diet.
Mine didn't, but I ate as if I had already had surgery for 6 months or so before my surgery, protein shakes in the am, and before bed, ate small mini meals, something every 3 - 4 hours. Protein first, fruits and veggies, whole grains etc.
I hope this helps
I would imagine pre op that you could eat the lean proteins, like meat and low fat cheeses. I would call your doctor though. Whatever you do though don't go crazy and buy a bunch of protein powder, because you will not know if you will like that after surgery even if you like it now, your tastes will change alot!

Hey There Joni,
For sure check w/your doc's office, or the dietician you will be working with thru his office. I know personally that my dietician said I have to be on liquids the week before that's why I was trying to find ones I like. I think it will make the transition much easier. Also I say thanks for all the info from everyone on this board...... I found some yummy ones. Remember there are no silly questions... the only silly ones are those not asked.
Good luck w/ your surgery mine is a short time after yours
B
