Fibromyalgia

Does anyone here have fibromyalgia? If so has your energy increased and pain/fatigue/achiness/fibrofog, etc decreased since losing weight? I guess my overall question is has the surgery made the fibromyalgia tolerable? Thanks!

It has made the flare ups less than what I used to have and I think the pain has lessened somewhat. I do have lots more energy and don't just want to stay in bed when I'm hurting. The surgery doesn't "cure" fibro but I think losing the weight off the joints and muscles helps.

Annrenee, my surgery was June 16, 2006 and I had RNY. The lady that talked about stress was right because I notice that when I'm stressed, the pain is worse. Congratulations on your surgery and I know you'll do well. Take care.

Thanks Ann for the quick response. I know it won't cure it but if there is anything that will help the flare ups and energy, most importantly my health, I am down for it! I sent a letter to my psychiatrist asking her to fax the letter over to the Barix Insurance Specialist, so hopefully she will respond sometime next week. I am looking forward to having the surgery around October...if everything goes well. I know the process can sometimes be s-l-o-w

Hi Donna, I had my RNY June of 06, I too have Fibromyalgia. Losing the weight has helped some, as Ann stated, it helps to get the weight off of your muscles and joints. Everyones metabolism is different though, I have talked to others who say losing the weight has helped their Fibro a great deal!!!!!!!!!!!! That is what is so frustrating to me about having it, there are not many answers out there for us. I will pray your process goes quickly for surgery, Phyllis

Hi Donna, I have a friend that has severe fibro and it didn't seem to help her much. I haven't seen her in a while though, it may have gotten better, but the last time I talked with her it hadn't. I am a Massage Therapist and when I was in school I did a case study on Fibromyalgia and Myofascial pain. I don't suffer myself thank God, but I know several that do. So it really peeked my curiosity. Stress can really be a major culprit in your symptoms flaring up. Something that would really help you is to find a GOOD Massage Therapist, one that knowns and understands Fibro. It may hurt some when you are having it done, just try to bare with the therapist you should feel much better afterwards. Also try yoga, it is very stress relieving and will help to keep your muscles loose and plyable. Good luck to you Donna in your Journey to better health, God Bless and take care---Toni

Hi Toni, I had an awesome massage therapist who did deep tissue massage on me...however I live in Canton and she worked in Wixom and I got tired of the commute. Her prices where very affordable (at the time she was running a special). I was seeing her once a week, became addicted I have to try something...I am only 33 years old and I feel 83...
