Changing Insurance after being approved

I have a dilema. I am currently with Priority Health until May 4th then I will probably change to BCBS. My problem is I have been approved and gone through the evaluation process for the surgery. I met with Dr. Kemmeter Tuesday of this week. Now I am waiting to hear from Priority Health. When I met with Dr. Kemmeter, I thought I would get to keep Priority Health, but the next day when I started working on my benefits package I realized the company I'll be working for uses BCBS. (As a note, the company I work for was sold to GE). The new benefits start May 4th. I am sick about this change because I have been with Priority Health for years and because I am so far along in the process. I hate to have to resubmit for approval for surgery. I heard BCBS is hard to get by. Any comments?

From my experience BCBS is easy to deal with. The only problem you might have is if your policy has a pre-existing condition clause since you have already started this process with another insurance company. Holly W

Thank you! Sometimes I just feel like being goofy. I was trying to get a decent picture and finally just gave up. This is one of many where my eyes are crossed or my tounge is stuck out. Holly W

Are you going to have a PPO? I have BCBS PPO and while they had their requirements for approving the surgery, I didn't really have a hard time with them. The entire approval process for me took less than a month.

I changed insurance companies and just had to get approval from the new insurance company.

Hi Annette, I know that change is hard and can be frustrating, I have and have had bcbs ppo for a loooong time. Other then there prices, they are a good company. The best thing to do is call them with your questions. It probably would be better to wait until your insurance changes, because as Holly mentioned if they look at your surgery as a pre exsisting condition they may not pay for anything relating to your wls in the future. Definately do some research. Your HR maybe able to help you. Good Luck and God Bless.----Toni

1. Does the doctor take BCBS? 2. Can HR confirm that the surgery you want is covered? If both answers are yes, no problem. If either answer is no, you will want to keep the Priority Health, if you can pay for it and keep it. BSBC is easy to deal with but some employers choose to exclude various procedures from coverage. Best wishes.

Thanks everyone for the advice about changing insurance companies. Actually, I found out I don't have to change. I was able to keep Priority Health and I am very pleased! I was so worried. Now I am waiting for mmpc to submit the papers to Priority Health so I can get a surgery date. Pray for me, please.
