protien ..
My WLS recommended 60-70 gms of protein per day and I did that for a while, then lost count, and my hair began to fall out in April of 2006. I began closely monitoring my intake and got the levels up to 100 gms per day and used soy protein shampoos and conditioner and noticed a change immediately.
This goes without saying that you MUST follow your surgeon's recommendations for protein and also, go to various places and get SAMPLES of protein POST OP before buying a whole cannister or jug of the stuff. Everyone's taste differs and now I cannot tolerate sweet protein shakes or anything mixed with milk so I use unflavored Any Whey in my coffee and hit about 100 gms protein per day including foods I eat.
A website I visited just post op that offered samples was www.vitalady.com
and you can also go to www.nashanutrition.com to find many kinds of proteins and samples.
Again, listen to Julie above and don't buy proteins now. I recall that I thought chocolate and peanut butter would sound good in a shake (protein) and bought a small container and could not stand it. Fortunately I was able to give it to someone who could use it.
Try all flavors and keep a stash of mixed kinds around because as time goes on what you like 2 months post op, you will be sick of 5 months out.
