Special Consideration... What does that mean?
I've been on the path to weightloss surgery for about 6 months now. I've done my psych eval, I've had an echocardiogram done, I've seen my doctor and I've seemingly jumped through all the hoops... But my request has been submitted to BCBS of MI as a "special consideration" and I'm not really sure what that means.
I'm wondering if any other BCBS people in this forum have had to try for "special consideration" and what the outcome was. I was told by the Baractric center in Ypsi that it will take about 3 weeks to get a response back from BCBS. This thursday will be week 2. I'm anxious. Any words of wizdom?
I take it that it was something you had to keep on them about for your surgery? I haven't talked to BCBS at all about this whole process, I've left it up to Julie at the clinic in Ypsi. She told me that I shouldn't ask her again about it until 3 weeks had passed.
I'm assuming special consideration means "you haven't seen a dr. consistently for 12 months, but you may be unhealthy enough to warrant the surgery??"
I was also told the same thing by Barix when I was applying for approval from BCBS. It did take a couple of weeks but I was approved the first time without having the documented 12 months of physician diet history or what ever the requirement was. It is nerve racking to wait but it was worth it to me. That was last year (2006) and special consideration is not necessarily a bad thing.
