Hernia Symptoms?

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me how to tell if you have a hernia? I have this stabbing pain just below my right rib cage and it hurts really bad when I bend over or when I lift something heaving. It also hurts if I press on my belly in that area. I have never had a pain like this and this is the only thing I can think that it could be. What else could be wrong? I do plan on calling my surgeon's office tomorrow so I can see what they think, but I just wanted to get some input tonight. Thanks for listening to me babble.... Shawn M.

Hi Shawn, Do you have a gall bladder? It could be that, or any number of things. It is best to call your Dr. Please let us know what s/he say's. God bless, Annette

Nope I do not have a gallbladder. I had that out about 5 years ago... Completlely different kind of pain too. This feels like my side is going to just rip open when I bend over to do things. Sure does make it hard to change diapers... Guess hubby will have to do most of them for now... LOL.... Thanks for your input! Shawn M.

If you cough and it sticks out a bit that is usually a sign. I know that is what my surgeon does to check for a hernia. I am that one person in a group that does not have a hernia though. =( Suzanne

Thanks Di! No I have not had my appendix out, but I think it is too high for that. It is just under my rib cage. It seems to hurt more today than it did yesterday too. I will call them after I get the kiddos all off to school. Thanks for the help. Shawn M.

Shawn: hey,...it is your roomie from the hospital! You look great, kiddo. WOW! Did you find out anything from the doctor's office? I found out I had a hernia when there was this huge bugle in my tummy. Didn't hurt that much, but the bulge was huge. Keep us posted, and take care. You look great. Tracey

When I called they said it sounded like scar tissue, since there is no buldge. It seems to be getting a little bit worse as the week goes on though. They also said that they would look at it when I come in the 16th for my 6 month check up. Hard to believe it will have been 6 months already.... I will update when I find out more though.. I have thought of going to see my regular doctor just because she is so close to me and that way I may get a more definite answer. KWIM? Well, I gotta get the kiddos off to school....
