Hello everyone, I am going on 2 years out and for the last 6 months or more I have been battling with low blood sugars. I will drop down to the 40s in the mornings. I don't seem to have that much of a problem in the evenings. A few times it has dropped at night but not near as often as the morning. Seems to be happening every morning. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, what are you doing to keep it in check. I am so sick of my head hurting, tummy being upset and sometimes it gets so bad I break out in a sweat and have heart palpitations. Not much fun. I wasn not diabetic at all before my weightloss. This is entirely new for me. Thanks. Melody

Melody Low blood sugar is serious and you need to see your PCP. Blood sugar in the 40s is too low. There are some products available at the drug store that can boost your sugar levels when that happends, but you really need to see your doc. ASAP Dennis

They are aware. I have informed them. They tell me this is common. I am looking to find people it is common with to see what they are doing for theirs. Sugar makes me sick so I have to stick with fruits to bring my levels back up. Applesauce seems to be working the best but it is getting to the point I am having a hard time getting it down.

Hi Melody, Check with your doctor/wls about this first and foremost. Or contact your NUT. On occasion I have had instances where my blood sugar dropped. Not quite that low, but it caused me to have tunnel vision, and feel like I was going to pass out. My WLS told me that the answer was more protein. I'm not exactly sure why, but he told me that I needed to increase my grams per day. So I did. And so far my number runs in the 80's. My WLS nurse indicated that if you are feeling these symptoms to dilute orange juice 50-50, and sip on that, (provided you get low sugar/low carb juice- which they do make).......and also 1 life saver will bring your blood sugars back up to where it should be, but in your case, it might be too much for you. Try increasing your protein and test your numbers again in a few days and see if that helps. It did me. Another thing is to make sure you are eating properly, it could be a combination of things causing this drop. Hope this helps. Stacey W

I have consulted the a nutrionist. She feels it is just temporary. That my body is so use to over producing insulin that it will just take some time for my body to catch up with all the changes. In the mean time, the low blood sugars are just difficult at times. I will try the oj, but not the life saver. Sugar makes me so sick that I just don't touch it. I will also give it a try of eating more protein then. I will boost my intake to more like 120 grams per day. Thanks for the advice.

Melody, Maybe try getting up earlier and having a protein snack. Like a yogurt or chunk of cheese and going back to bed. It may be you are waiting too long between evening and morning without eating? Wendy

Thanks Wendy. I will give that a try. I get up at 445 am now and eat a banana as soon as I crawl out of bed but now I will try protein instead. I was doing the natural sugar thing to keep it from dropping. Worked for a while, but now it is starting again even though I am eating a banana. I have a protein bar as soon as I get to the office as well. Will try the snack and protein shake and see if that helps. I appreciate all the advice. I am so fed up of getting light headed and sick to my stomach every morning. I will set my alarm for say 2 am and get up and eat a piece of cheese and see if that helps me out.

Hi Melody, I know when I don't get enough protien in usually more towards mid afternoon, early evening I will get a reaction simular to low BS, I will grab a pc of turkey or cheese, or a protien shake. Sometimes I will have to sit on the kitchen floor while trying to eat it, so that I don't fall. It scares the crap out of my DH. I know what to do and I just do it and I feel better with in minutes of eating it. It is really weird. But I agree with the others, focus on the protien. I know that they teach us NOT to eat before bed, but if that is when your issues are, I agree with the others that mentioned eating before bed. Good luck and take care----Toni
