I had the RNY on February 6th 2006, with Dr Carlin. I was at the time, a BMI of 49 currently I am down 33 pounds with a BMI of 43. Not as good a weight loss as I had hoped for. But I will take it!!!! I was unable to do much before surgery, too tired, hurting all over. I can now walk about 2 miles at a time. I can bend and ties shoes. Fit into clothes I haven't worn in over 10 yrs. Do yard work, take the steps at work. I am not hungry. I was on a ton of meds before surgery. I am now only on 30 units of insulin a day...when before I was on 120 units, along with 2 oral meds for diabetes. I was on blood pressure and am no longer taking any of those. I was on anti depressants, and water pills. no more!! My thyroid meds I will take the rest of my life or so I am told. I went to my PCP to get blood tests for my 3 month check up with Dr Carlin. They did a hemoglobin A1C. Tells what your blood sugards were over the past 3 months. Pre surgery mine was about 11 and up to 13. Normal is I believe below 6. Thursday it was 6.3 They were ecstatic. So now they are going to transition me from insulin to oral meds, so no more shots. Also they said it could help with the weight loss. Insulin has a habit of keeping or putting weight on you. So do I regret my decision to have the surgery....HE** NO!!!! lol I only wish I had done it earlier. Thanks to everyone for the support!! It has been awesome. Hoping I can help support others following this same path.

Congrats I am so happy that you are doing well. All things come in time and as the weight comes off you will feel better enough to work out more.

That is great that you are doing so well... Hemaglobin A1C if can vary from the lab that processed it.... You know the machines may be different....but normally normal is between 4 and 6 percent. I had one done about 2 or 3 months ago and mine was 6.9 and they said I was diabetic but well controlled.. But either way sounds like you have dropped yours almost in half... That is great...

You bet Deb, I had RNY on Feb 5th; and I haven't lost as much as I would like either. But I like you will take all the small victories as well. I am down on my diabetic meds too; went from 2 pills a day to only a half of one. I am down 38 lbs since surgery. I have also cut down on pain meds; gotten off gout meds as well. I have went from size 24 to some 16's. Still I am at a stall for weight loss too. I have been following things as I should. I too must take thyroid meds for the rest of my life. I do not regret my surgery either; even with a few complications I have had. Just keep on keepin on girlfriend; we will make it to the other side! Best Wishes, Judy R
