Pre-surgery fears:(
O****ep trying to get past my fear of going under....my surgery is this Friday. I keep having this re-occuring thought of being in the OR and this panic comes over me . Can anyone tell me does the medication they give you to relax you make you really sleepy? Will it calm me down while I am in the OR room before they put me out? Thanks for all of your support

The fear is normal. Try to keep yourself busy and your mind occupied, I know it isn't easy. When they seen i was starting to panic they put it in my i.v. , i don't remember anything after that. When i had my tubes done, they gave me a liquid to drink that made me loopy and totally relaxed me. I'm sure if you tell your surgeon when he comes to see you in pre op that you need something to calm you down , then he'll make sure you get it right away.

Congrads on your surgery...Not to worry, u will get some "happy medicine" in pre-op and u will not remember anything. Its wonderful!
U will get sleepy within a few minutes then zone out, they will wheel u into the or and u will have no idea what is going on. U will be in good hands and will wake up in recovery and your new life begins.
Best of luck,
robin
Faith, First let me say good luck to you this friday. I wish you a speedy recovery. Being scared is sooooooooo normal, i remember I wanted to run when I saw the hospital. But i knew I made the right descision. Like the others have said you will get something to calm your nerves. When i was being wheeled into the OR I saw my Doc asked him if he had his wheaties today that was all I remember until I woke up in recovery. They take good care of you. Again good luck to you. DeAnn
Faith,
Yes, they did give me something to relax me before going into the OR. Now right before I went in, they gave me a shot of heprin in my stomach (I think it's a blood thinner) and said it's standard for all of their patients. I don't know if your doc will do that or not, but I wish I would have been ready for it. For some reason, that really freaked me out. It didn't hurt, but it took me by surprise. Ask your doc so you'll know if it's coming.
Also, when I woke up from surgery it was more painful than I thought it would be. Not unbearable, as I've said before I would do it all over again, but there was some pain. After I was settled in my room and the nurses got orders then I got my pain meds and it was ok.
You'll be fine on Friday. Get a head start on thinking about your life changes and you'll do even better!
