Ok..another question today....why do some people have drain tubes and others don't? I read posts about them allot. I am having a lap rny - is the drain tube only for those that have the surgery open? What is it and what makes someone have to have one?

I had lap rny and had a drain tube. This is the first surgery I have had that I had one though, so I can't answer you as to why, I just know that I did. It really was no big deal and was a weird kind of feeling when they took it out. I was prepared for pain and there wasn't any. Good Luck! Shawn M.

Depends on the dr if you get a drain tube or not. I had one for a day or so...No big deal. Hugs Judy

I had the RNY with Dr Carlin..and I did not have a tube...but then someone else had it the same day and had a tube. So it must depend on alot of different issues. Best to ask the surgeon. I did have a tube though....24 yrs ago with my gall bladder surgery.

Dear Faith, I had lap RNY and I had drain tubes. They were removed before I left the hospital. I think it depends on your surgeon. I also think that they are a good idea, because they remove excess fluid and blood that can occur with this surgery. Best of luck to you. When is your surgery scheduled? Sincerely, Judy R.
