Question About Hunger
I've got a question for those of you who are post-surgery... A friend of mine who had RNY said she wasn't hungry (had no appetite at all) for the first 6 months after surgery... and i'm wondering if that is the norm or more of an unusual result... I assume that if it's the norm, then those 6 months work wonders for changing habits...
I wasn't hungry for over a year, i had to make myself eat. But for the first six months, being full made me nauseaus and hurt, so i only had a few bites and made sure it was packed with protein. Now, just cause we aren't hungry doesn't mean we don't crave and want more. About four months out i discovered and the sf yummies that are out there, like sf oreos. It took me about a month to see what i was doing and to realize that just because it said sf didn't mean it was good for me. There are a lot of things that go on with your mind throughout this whole process, even now at almost three years post op. The whole point to remember after wls is to stay focused and stick with the plan, it's an awesome journey , one i'd never have been able to imagine.
Good luck to you
Hugs
Linda
I totally understand your point. I think it's the mental stuff I'm most worried about... I've actually made arrangements to start doing some therapy before (and after) surgery in hopes of making the transition through this process as smooth as possible... I think at this point I'm just overwhelmingly scared of failing at this, like i've failed at every other thing i've tried... trying to get into that positive state of mind...
I'm 11 months out and I still don't get hungry. However, I DO still like to eat and have an appetite. I have really stuck to the no-grazing concept and I still measure my food, chew a lot, eat slowly, etc. I feel very satisfied with the way I'm eating now and can certainly see myself continuing in this way for the rest of my life. I pray every day that my hunger doesn't return!!!
