I have been on depro for years for endrometrosis. Part of the problem with weight gain (so my doctor said) was 'bending the elbow' but I believe it was in part from the hormones itself. I've had to add some estrogen shots of late and I've gained about 10 lbs. I haven't heard that you couldn't digest them. I would call the surgeon first and talk to him/her. Sadly, the nurse at the ob/gyn's office doesn't know squat about gastric bypass and how it might effect women. UGH!!

I was on Depo and got pregnant with twins lol. I guess there are different side effects for different people. Holly W

I did Nuvaring for a year following surgery. Had no issues with it. I had been told because of absorption issues, that the pill was not always effective in post-op patients.

Hiya Crystal, I went on Depo BECAUSE of having the surgery and the malabsorption issues and i had major menstrual problems due to it. So I now have switched to the Ortho Evra patch and AM LOVING IT!!!!! Talk to your OBGYN about what is right for you though. I didnt want to take the chance with the pill.... and Depo just didnt work for me. So Ortho Evra was my method of choice. But your docs will know how to better advise you. But that's my input! Good luck Hugs Sydney

Hi Crystal, After my surgery on the 14th, I having my IUD reinserted (had to take it out for surgery). I use the kind without hormones so it won't affect weight.

I take my pill everyday and I have not had any problems. I have not gotten pregnant and it's helping to get me regulated. Stacey B

I was on Nuva ring and am currently 14 weeks pregnant! If I could go back and "re-do" my choice of birth control I would go with an IUD. I did love the ring while I was on it, but then again here I am preggo MUCH sooner than I/we planned. I hope that helps! Jennifer
