exercise routine? I am trying to get into the habit on one, but I have severe arthritis in my left knee that keeps me at limited walking some days. Looking at swimming and a recumbant bike. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have severe arthritis too but I find that if I work through it, it makes the pain less. I also have a detached bicep muscle but am now able to go back to my normal exercise routine which is: Monday, Wednesday & Friday morning (6:15 a.m.) - work out on home gym using 20 - 40 lbs of weight depending on the exercises. I get an all around exercise this way. Monday, Wednesday noon - 30 minutes of Tai Chi Tue, Thurs, Friday noon - ride my bike if the weather is good (at least 2 miles including medium hills) or I go upstairs here at work and ride the recumbent bike and do my ab lounge. We're about to add a total gym so I'll be trying that out as well. Each and every evening - at least a one mile brisk walk with my dogs.

Before surgery and 74 lbs ago, my legs and back would give me fits if I even attempted walking for exercise, let alone any workout routine. My doc recommended water aerobics, and I LOVED it!! No stress on the joints and a great workout. If you can find a gym/pool nearby that offers classes, I highly recommend it. If not, try swimming laps.

I am 3 months out from Lap RNY. Before surgery I wasn't able to walk 1/2 block. I didn't even like walking into the building from the parking lot at work I now walk 1 1/2 miles at lunch time.4 times a week...and then other days I walk at home on treadmill. I love walking. It lets me think. I am considering Curves or Fitness USA at this time to start more on my arms and other parts.
