Scared, but not about the surgery

I'm more worried about the time off from work this is going to cost me. I don't get paid time off or vacation, so all of the days I have to take off for recovery are going to be negative in the pocketbook. I'm curious to know how quickly/slowly people have recovered. I know each case is unique, but I plan to have it done laproscopicly (my date is May 30 by the way, super close!) and I've generally been a good healer. Suggestions? Comments? Anyone want to pat me on the back, because this is a big accomplishment for me after 2 years of working toward getting a surgery date!

I had lap RNY and was back at my desk in a week. I'm an administrative assistant so I didn't have to life or do anything but sit and answer phones and work on the computer.

I have a desk job as well and I hope that I am able to do the same. I met with my supervisors yesterday about all of this and they have actually allowed me a little "at home" work time. We will see how it all goes.

I had lap RNY and need the whole six weeks..... But I'm older than a lot of people who get this surgery (53) so maybe that's why. No way could I have gone back in a week.

Hi Ana I had the full bypass laproscopicly and my revovery period was very quick. I could have went back to work in a week . I was on no pain meds after one day at home. You will do very well. I had no problems at all. April 3rd was my surgery date. Tonya

Ha Ana I was in the hosiptal for two days when I got out I did my closes I was on pain meds for two days I,m 52 so It all depinds on how you do pains and it nice to hear from someone from Bay City So Hi A FRIEND FROM BAY CITY

I was 55 when I had the surgery so I don't think age has anything to do with it. I was in good shape and did exercises before the surgery so I was raring to go afterwards.

I took my pain meds for like 3 days then I was fine.. I am a college students and I went back to school on the 6th day after surgery and I was fine.. I guess it all depends on what you do for work also. Good luck let us know how you are or if you have any other questions

Tell me about your pain meds? What did they give you to help with the pain. I don't do well with any kind of Vicoden or anything like that and I usually end up using Motrin 600's or something like that, but I fear that won't be enough this time around. This is my first abdominal surgery. I took Vicoden for surgery on my upper arm about 6 years ago and all I can remember is troubled sleep and weird dreams.

had mine done Lap on Tusday and home by thursday, Off all pain meds day I came home. I could have gone back to work within a week. But I did get short term disability and stayed home for 5 weeks. Good Luck
