Newbie Here
Hi Everyone,
I found this website and the forums just a few days ago - I am so happy I did! My WLS is coming up this Tuesday, May 15. I'm having the band. So far the process has been pretty simple, although the week of liquid diet has been tough at times.
Here's my question - Have any of you AFTER wls followed a low carb eating plan, and if so what were the results. That is where I tend to eat (lower carb - love protein), and I just wondered if that was a problem or not.
Not sure w/ the band...but for R-N-Y, it is almost a way of life for us. We have to consume at least 60 grams of protien per day. At one year post op, I try to follow the south beach diet. It is very clean eating w/ high protien. If I do have carbs(pasta or bread****ep it whole grain or wheat, and it will only consist of 1/8 of my meal. the south beach bars are great for a full meal on the go...I recommend the cinnamon raisin!!!
Welcome to OH, and the best of luck to you on Tuesday. Try to look at the liquid part of the preop procedure, as a test. If you can do a week of liquid, you can do anything and not fail! I had to do a 3 week liquid protien plan. It taught me alot about why I put food in my mouth. I look back and appreciate the time and effort it took me to get where I am today...down 120 pounds, down 6 pant sizes, full of energy, and I look forward to physical activity. WOW...life is simply amazing, you will see!!!!

Hi Paul and welcome to OH of Michigan!!! Congrats on making the step to a healthier you!!! Follow the dr's orders and you will be fine!!!
I eat 60-90 grams of protein a day plus some veggies and fruit not much bread and drink 70 or more ounces of liquids a day. Not sure how it works with the lap band but should be similar to the RNY.
Wishing you the best of luck and hope that you continue to post here and let us know how you are doing!!!
By the way...Where are you from?? If you are close to the Saginaw area we have support group meetings each month and you are welcome to attend!!!!
Hugs Judy
Thanks Joy and Judy for your posts. My nutritionist is promoting a balanced diet after surgery, but honestly she's calling for 50% carb, and I know if 50% of my diet was carb, I'd never lose weight.
Judy, you asked where I was from - I live in Warren - a little far from Saginaw, but thanks for the invitation!
Hi Paul,
Welcome to the best place on the internet to get information on anything to do with wls. The people here are FANTASTIC and always willing to help.
