Gallbladder question???
I am curious to know how many have had to have their gallbladder out after bypass surgery.
My bypass surgeon has recommended I loose the gallbladder based on the results of the CCK hida scan that I had done. When I went and saw a general surgeon he was not convinced, but said he would do it. I need to have another procedure done that my bypass surgeon cannot do that's why I ended up with a general surgeon.
Because Dr. Schram works with this type of thing everyday, I am going with his recommendation and having it taken out before it gets worse. I have heard an awful lot about people having to have their gallbladder removed after the weight loss, so I was just curious if it is as common as I have heard.
Thanks in advance for you help.

I don't understand why all surgeons don't make it mandatory that the gallbladder be removed while you are having the gastric bypass.
I had my gallbladder removed years before my bypass surgery, but had I still had it my surgeon would have removed it. He also removed my appendix at the time of surgery. He did this for two reasons. 1, if I ever had stomach pain after the surgery he wanted to automatically rule out a problem with the appendix and the gallbladder. 2, rapid weight loss can cause gallstones. Since it's a given that there will be rapid weight loss with the bypass, the risk is greatly increased.
My bypass surgeon said he was going to take my gall bladder out during surgery, but decided not to. He said my liver was too fatty and you have to move it to get to the gall bladder. HE said to wait until I lost 100 lbs. That came and gone. He said there is no reason to take it now since I'm not having an issues. I haven't had a gall bladder attack since 2 months before surgery. I wonder if gallstones can go away on their own.
