I have a concern
I have a concern y'all
I'had my surgery almost 3wks ago.. and I find it soo hard to get 64oz of luquids in and I'm having trouble getting in my 50+grms of protein and hitting that 700-900 calories... it's soo hard.. I almost had a break down the other day.. because I really want to do right .. I'm getting better and better every day.. but I'm still not hitting my marks.... is this something that you have to build up to? or should I be getting all my goals in at this point.... It takes me soo long to get a meal in... I didn't think it'd be this hard... but it is... I'm trying not to beat myself up about it.. I just wanna know if I'm doing anything wrong

It is very hard in the beginning for many of us. I really didn't get that many calories in until I was at least 6 months out! Pretty much you have to make sure that everything you put in is protein and sometimes since our tastes change in the beginning that isn't easy either. The early days a few bites of anything was all I could handle and any kind of meat was difficult to digest, but make sure whatever you eat you chew the heck out so it doesn't get stuck! Every day will get better, and better! Slimfast low carb has 20 grams of protein and 5 grams of carbs so even drinking a few of those a day (which still won't be easy) will help you. Water just needs to be sipped all day/night long to get your intake. I know I found an ice tea mix that was decaf/sugar free that I mixed with my water and it became easier to get it down. Best of Luck!!!

Hey Beep,
Right now your protein drinks count as a part of your fluids. Protein drinks are a good way to get in your liquids, protein, and calories. There in no way you are going to be able to get everything in this early out. You have to work up to it. lt will get easier for you. I am 17 months out and I was only taking in between 500 and 800 calories a day. I talked with Annette about it. I had to nearly double my calories. I feel like I'm eating all of the time. It's work but I'm finally getting my calories in, and losing weight again. Give yourself time. You will learn how your pouch works, and how to take care of it.
God bless you,
Annette
My experience was similar. At the beginning I didn't want to put anything in my mouth. It was a struggle just to drink fluids. Have you tried supplementing with unflavored protein powder in sf pudding or soup? That can help you get more protein in. Also, I just started drinking Micellar Milk. It comes premixed in a 17 ounce resealable container. It is not thick like most protein shakes. It has the consistency of milk, maybe a little thicker but not much. For the whole 17 ounces you get 40 grams of protein, 4 grams sugar and 2 grams of fat. I am limited to 3 grams or less of sugar per serving but I can only drink about 6 ounces at a time so it's OK. You will do better with your fluid and protein take each day. The beginning is difficult but soon it will be second nature and you'll feel more comfortable. It sounds like you really want this to work and that attitude can only help you.

BC, it's hard to get all the protein & water in at first. I was so glad to find out that the water and protein drinks all counted toward the total fluid intake. I did get some Any Whey and put a scoop in my yogurt and hot chocolate (still do). This is 17 grams of protein per scoop and the 8 oz counts towards the fluids. The nice part is you can still sip and get your protein in at the same time. It does get easier as you go forward and it won't be long before everything falls into place. I think it too my about 45 minutes to get a meal in when I was on soft/pureed. It still takes me about 20-30 minutes of chewing to get my meal in and I'm 11 months out.
Hey Arthur,
Don't beat yourself up! As everyone else will tell you it is this way for the majority of us! I had my RNY WLS in early Feb. I still have difficulty getting in all my fluids. As for getting in your protein you have to be creative. I also recommend 50 grand slam in can at GNC; it is very easy to get down. I only drink half at a time; your body can only aborsb 30 grams at one setting max. Try not to worry; it will get better. Good luck, Judy R
Hey BC I had my surgery May 1st 17 days ago and trust me I'm in the same boat with you.....before my surgery I drank over 64 oz of water ...Now I'm lucky to get 30 oz of water or whatever down.. Yes it can be hard but WE can do it!!! From what I hear it will take us awhile to reach that point but just hang in there.....;-)
