Hello out there! I recently moved to Michigan and I'm looking to all of you out there for support; particularly those of you who have had surgery and experienced some weight gain. How did you handle it? I know I need to get moving and get some regular exercise in but any other suggestions on motivation or how to keep myself from panicking? I feel I'm going to gain it all back now and it's so frightening! I had surgery 1.5 years ago and got down to my lowest weight of 139lbs just a few months ago and now each month it's been creeping up 1.5 lbs here, 1 lb there, lose 1, gain 1.5....now I'm at 146. I usually only weigh myself once a month but today I decided to get on the scale because I feel like I'm getting bigger and I wanted to be sure I haven't gone over the number that I've set as my "watch out" weight which is 145lbs. Well, I'm past that by one pound so I really need to "WATCH OUT" and get back to basics!!! We've all gone through so much to get this tool and make a better healthier lifestyle for ourselves and I do not want to take that for granted and blow it by eating unhealthy foods and not exercising but I find myself eating more unhealthy foods and not exercising. Anyone else going through this? Thanks for any feedback/insight you have...I always respect everyone's opinion!

Welcome to MICHIGAN! I think the best advice I got was to join a support group...it's been great for me...I am not very post op but it has helped make friends to rally me! LOL Good Luck! Carla

Support Group Meetings: Lunchtime informal chat, bring your own lunch or beverage. Classroom 10, Marian Building, on the south side of St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia. We get together monthly, Monday, May 21 at 12:30 is our next one. The more formal meeting is May 30, 7 pm in the St Mary Mercy Hospital auditorium, roughly under the gift shop on the north side of the building. The guest speaker is an exercise physiologist. This will feature a bariatric workout, wear clothes you can exercise in and be ready to move and groove, according to the Michigan Bariatric Institute newsletter. I'm still working toward my goal, some of the others that come to the lunch group are farther out and at goal. If you come to the OH event on Saturday, please look for me and say hi! I'll be wearing a purple shirt with the cat in my avatar.
