I need to know what the regain percentage is for RYN. I talked to someone who is considering the surgery and she is under the impression that 50% of us regain our weight. I told her that was a pretty high amount and I know it is much lower than that but I don't remember what the percentage for regain is. Please help me with this one Thank you. God bless, Annette

Which type of RNY is she talking about? DS-RNY, general RNY, a pouch....? I think 50% is a high number, but I also think it depends on each case, what type of procedure he/she had, and how they ate after the fact.

Let's ask at the Michigan Bariatric Institute support group tomorrow. That is at 12:30, Classroom 10 in the Marian Building, St Mary Mercy Hospital. Bring your own lunch, questions and comments.

When I had done my research, I asked my present WLS Surgeon that question. And what Julie said is correct according to him (my wls surgeon) however it does depend on your overall procedure, how you follow the guidelines post op, and just how determined you are to maintain the ideal -goal weight you once achieve. I would recommend asking her WLS Surgeon if she has one, and if not, perhaps post this same question on the MAIN board? SW

Annette, According to doctor Nunn at the OH event for the roux n y it is 56% regain 1/2 of their weight after 4 years. I was surprised at how high it was also. But I guess we have to remember that we are addicts and have to say that really for an addiction that recovery rate is pretty good! Wendy
