Hidradenitis Suppurativa? Did it complicate your RNY in any way? How did it respond to your wls? Did it come into play when you were looking for insurance approval for plastics? And any other information you'd like to share! Thanks, Lexia

Only sufferers have heard of it, so don't feel bad. It's called an "orphan" disease because 1% of the population or less has it. Research and development of treatments and cures doesn't happen because enough money won't be made from the eventual treatments/cure. It is a condition of the skin and sweat glands causing a pea sized "pimple" initially followed by boils, abcesses and worse. Typically in the armpits, groin, buttocks & under breasts although some sufferers also have other body part involovement.. neck, torso, face... Naturally it is painful, I've had abcesses get as large as a softball. Of sufferers 50% + are white women whose coloring is quite fair and whom are overweight in varying degrees. It can be debilitating and leaves horrible scars. Some people must even collect disability because their bodies/ skin are so damaged. It isn't something others can "catch", but does sometimes run in families. Probably a lot more information than you really wanted, but I would really like to know if anyone has experienced a reduction in flare ups, or had positive results after plastics... anyone? Lexia
