Why I bowed to KP
Why I bowed to Kevin Phillips at the OH Seminar in Southfield.
Because 15 months ago, I read every word of his profile and thought long and hard about the complications of the surgery.
Because I saw posts from him about vitamins and what/how to eat and when to call the doctor. They weren't dramatic, they were clear and concise.
Because when I gathered my courage and made my first post asking what to ask my potential surgeon, he immediately answered with an exhaustive list of questions. I later realized that he had it on file and just cut and pasted, but he did it, promptly and kindly.
Because he made jokes, often at his own expense and caused me to realize that I might be able to get through this.
Because I began to find out that he reached out repeatedly to wls folks with support by phone and personal visits.
Because he never glossed over the potential repercussions from the surgery.
Because he was a frequent farter, never taking himself or the world too seriously.
After the seminar I heard him sum it up (paraphrase) by saying that he was glad to see the folks from the board and that every one looked healthy.
Healthy, isn’t that what it is supposed to be about?
I didn’t bow to the OH staff, I shop with their advertisers and paid for their conference. I appreciate their work, but I recognize that it is a commercial effort.
But when a tall galoot in a kilt can voluntarily get to the essence of situation by combining common sense and scatological humor, I bow.
Nope Rhonda I meant what I said. At the ripe old age of 55 I do indeed remember Stephenson Hwy before I-75. Growing up in Ferndale but part of the Hazel Park school district I used to walk to St Mary Magdalen's through Green Acres Park and cross Woodward Hts at Stephenson. Back then there were even still trolley car tracks in the middle of Stephenson at Woodward Hts. I bet you also didn't know this..... At one point there was also a small airport in the median of Stephenson. I think it was between 15 & 16 Mile roads. MANY MANY MOONS AGO.. Geez I am an old geezer. I even remember when it used to be free to get into the zoo! LOL..
In snooping around the OH web site I found KP's posts. You miss a lot when you don't see the whole strand, but you get a real taste of the kind of person he is, and frankly I'm sorry I missed him. So many of you have stepped up to answer my questions and offer support as I begin my journey, and I thank you. There is nothing like a straight shooter when you make life changing decisions and the more we have on this board, the better. To those of you who know KP on a personal level, please send my regards. Even PS, KP leaves his mark! Lexia

Although I have not met KP I feel I know him from his posts. A wise man, however, from the comments he has made I would definttely not bow to him down wind. Is that not true?
When my journey continues I will still seek his wisdom.
