Discouraged....
The more I read....the more discouraged I get. I see the weight loss of other patients...I am 3 months out and lost 44 pounds. Don't get me wrong!! I am happy with any weight loss....but am wondering...did my thyroid issue really slow the weight loss down that much. I was not on any thyroid meds after surgery and my thyroid was inactive. We didn;t find this out till a couple weeks ago. Or am I doing something else wrong... I am getting my water in, my protein and walking. I am eating my meals earlier in the day as suggested by the NUT......Should I go back to stage 3 or 4 foods? I am not asking for medical advice... : ) just advice. Was anyone elses weight loss slower at first?

Don't get worried or discouraged. We lose at different rates. And remember we lose a percentage of our excess weight so the numbers get smaller the farther we go. Remember women lose slower than men and plateaus are always tough. Stay on track and you will do well.
You are doing it right. After all you didn't gain it overnight.

Did you ever gain this much weight this quickly? Or this many inches? It's small comfort now, but next year at this time, you won't be obsessing about just which day the scales started dropping again, you'll be too busy shopping for another new wardrobe.
There will always be people who are smarter, richer, better looking and thinner than you and me. But there will always be other people who are poorer, dumber, stinkier and fatter, too..
So, you are losing about a half pound a day. I averaged a third of a pound a day for the first few months, and then even less. And yet, I'm still I'm still considered a success.
Can anyone else hear the Supremes singing "Oh you can't hurry fat, though you just hate to weigh. This flab won't go easy, it's a game of losing weight."
Which is the long way of saying that if the doc and the nutritionist are happy, then you are probably doing the right things.
Don't get discouraged. We all understand how you feel. What are you eating and how often? I bet it probably was the thyroid issue....has the weight loss stepped up since getting back on the meds? It may be too soon to know. I ate five to six small meals a day to boost my metabolism, it worked for me and is what my nut recommended.
Hugs
Linda

Hi Deb,
I know exactly where you are coming from! I had my RNY in early Feb 07, and I too have been a slower loser. I get frustrated too. I also have thriod issues but my doc said that has nothing to do with it. Also my doc said I am doing fine and not to try to push my body past it's comfort point of losing. Last time he said you lost 13 lbs in five weeks and that is more than most people loss in months. He also said just keep on and be patient I will get there. Maybe others that are losing faster are weighing more than we did at the beggining, or maybe they have a faster metabolic rate, or perhaps they are going a little to strong with things? Whatever the case is we should focas on our own accomplishments; and how we feel compared to last year at this same time! Last year I would not, could not walk, exercise; or do things with my family and friends. This year I do walking, treadmill, exercise bike, biking, dancing ect. My hubby said he feels like his life partner is back! I was diaginosed diabetic in Dec. 06; high blood pressure, sleep apnea, ect.
Now I am no longer taking pills for BP, was taking 2 pills a day for diabetes (now half pill), no more gout meds., sleep apnea much improved; and I take less than one thrid of the pain meds I used to. How about your sucesses??? I bet if you begin to count them you my be suprised. We will make it my losing friend. Things have never came easily to me; and when I get them it is because I have earned it all the way. I suspect it is this way for you as well. I have lost 45 since surgery; and 27 before (at a total of 72) since Dec. 06. I want much more faster as well; but I still would not trade where I have came from for a million dollars. When my primary doc said why WLS I repiled because I want to live into retirement with my hubby,
(don't want another woman spending his money LOL), want to be there for my kids and grandkids; and I don't want to pay for your next car doc. We will keep on moving forward!
Try to add just a small amt more to your exercise routine a week. Nut. told me to keep up my protein. I also hit a lot of stalls too. Sincerely, Judy R
Everyone else hs said most of what I was going to, so I just want to add a positive spin. Slower losers don't have as many issues with saggy skin
The faster you lose the less time your body has to adjust and the worse the sagging is going to be - lets face it saggy skin is inevitable but if losing slower means less saggy.....I'll take it!
