I am new here..so a little background for all of you. I have done EVERY diet known with very limited results.(I am sure no different then anybody else here). Now, my Dr has agreed that I need to look into surgery as an option.  In reading everything high and low, I think the MGB would be best for me because I need to get back to work as quickly as possible. ( I have taken 5 days off in 15 years, so time off is not a luxury for me).  Does anybody have any experience with MGB?  Are there any practicing surgeons close to or in Oakland county?  Please help.  Thanks a bunch.

Are you going to self pay?    Most insurances won't pay for mgb because of all the complications post op, especially ulcers.    Whatever you do, make sure to research as much as possible.     Hugs Linda

I don't know from personal experience, as I had open Roux-en-y, but I understand the time out from having it done Laprascopically is considerably less than the open.  If like Linda said, your ins won't pay for mgb, you might want to check into lap rny. Good luck in this roller coaster ride you are about to embark on!

Thanks so much for your input.  I am very upset at the realization that I might not be able to do it.  I cant afford to do it out of pocket, nor can I afford to take off too much work.  UGH..

Hi. I had lap rny at St John in Warren on May 14th.  Kerry Kole was my surgeon.  I was back to work part-time the next week.

I was back to work after lap RNY in 2 weeks.  Part of being successful with ANY weight loss surgery is learning to take better care of yourself.   That includes realizing that we need to take time off wor****asionally.  Learning that was the hardest part of WLS, the surgery itself was easy.   Good Luck,  Carol

Renewed hope!!  I realize that time off work is important, but so is supporting my family.  I am a single mom with NO support from my ex.  I am an office manager in Southfield and Clarkston, overseeing 2 car dealerships, so I take days here-and-there, but never any days consecutively. Off a week and then back part time the next might be feasible.  I will keep researching.  Thanks so much.

I also support my family and I am nervous as hell about taking the next 2-3 weeks off of work (I am scheduled to have my surgery Wednesday 5/30).  Taking the time off of work was my biggest sticking point in postponing this surgery for over 2 years now. But you have to face the hard facts, who's going to take care of your family when you're not able to go to work anymore because you're too heavy or because you can't get out of bed anymore, or worse?  Rally your support and get yourself motivated to make a good choice for yourself and get this done.  Not being able to take time off of work is not a good excuse.  And if your doctor is on your side about getting this surgery, it may just be time to get going.  Nothing is more valuable than being around for your kids.  Your car dealership can fend for themselves for  a few weeks while you take care of you.
