Unfortunately, it isn't about liking protein drinks, it's about getting them down.  I found that the thinner and colder it was, the easier it was to drink.  I mixed the full scoop of powder in just a few ounces of water and drank it from a bottle with a narrow neck so I couldn't smell it as much.  The good news is that protein drinks count as part of your fluid intake for the day. Really, force it down, your body will rob protein from its own organs and cause you some real problems if you don't get 'er done.  Don't get me started on all the horror stories about getting dehydrated....  You are sipping as you read this, right?

Early out someone suggested to me to try and drink all the icky tasting protien drinks through a straw. They said you don't taste it as much that way. For me I found that to be true. Good luck and keep on with the protien.

i use unjury protein powder.....the unflavored doesnt taste.so i put it in everything (especially early out) they also have a chicken flavored one that gets you away from the sweetened stuff.  Also i ate alot of wendy's chili--if you cant tolerate the chnks yet, just throw it into the blender and puree it up.that helped me get alot of protein in too...........good luck  hug rae

Hey there girl,     I had that same problem in the beginning! I also hate protein drinks; but I found  premixed in a can 50 Grand Slam (chocolate, cookies & cream, vanilla, & bananna). It has 50 grams in one can. Since we are unable to absorb 50 mg at one time I devide it into two; and it is a little thick so I add some non fat milk to it. This is one of the best and highest protein drinks I have found. You can also put protein mix into your yougarts, puddings, soups ect. Just get the unflavored brand so you can add it to whatever you want. It is a struggle at first! You can ask me anything anytime and I will always answer honestly, friendly; and without judgement. You are doing fine Sherry! Just try to take care of yourself.. Hugs.. Judy R

Hi Sherry, A couple of things I wanted to let you know: First of all, Wendy's chili has 17g of protein in the whole cup.  You probably won't be able to eat it all, maybe 1/3 of it, so that's not a whole lot of protein when you compare it to a scoop of protein powder.  I really really really really really really hate protein drinks.  I'm a big baby and a total picky eater.  This is what I do for protein even after one year out: I use AnyWhey unflavored powder.  They have it at Rite Aid by the vitamins or Vitamin Shoppe carries it.  Stacey W. has posted before that Barix also sells it.  In the morning I mix 1 scoop (17g protein) with one package of Swiss Miss diet hot cocoa.  Warm up 6 oz. of skim milk and mix it up.   At night, before bed, I use Dannon Light 'n Fit smoothies and pour a tiny bit in a glass and mix in a scoop of the AnyWhey.  I mix it up and shoot it down!  I honestly plug my nose and remember my old college days and drink it fast.  Now, be careful when you're a new post op!  Don't want to hurt yourself.....but if you just use a tablespoon or two of smoothie the AnyWhey mixes in and it's easy to drink fast. So that's what I do.  I get the rest of my protein from my meals during the day.  I have resigned myself to the fact that I will never sit around and enjoy those yucky drinks no matter what flavor they are. Good Luck finding something that works for you.  Experiment with different ideas and you'll find something! Brenda

Hi,  I also use any whey unflavored protein 17 grams per scoop.  I put it in my coffee in the morning, chili, soup, yougut, cottage cheese,  anything liquid.  I also bought some orange flavored protein from GNC and choclate.  I mix it with milk and two tablespoons of lite coolwhip.  Hummmm Hummmm good, taste like a creamsicle.
