Hello everyone, My name is Nicki and I am so happy to have found this message board.  My very good friend had WLS about 6 months ago and she lead me to this site.  I am 35 (next month) I  am 5'7 and weigh 280lbs.  I have type 1 diabetes.  The diabetes is the scariest part for me in deciding on the surgery.  I am frightened at the thought of the highs and lows and adjusting my pump to accomodate.  So, I am going to spend the next few hours, days....reading through all the posts before I ask something that has been asked 1000 times.  Thank you all for being here and posting your stories.........................it really means so much to so many.  (I posted this same message on the diabetes board...there's nobody home there They may all be out celebrating their weight loss together!!  ) Nicki

Nicki, I am a type I diabetic too.  I was diagnosed when I was 19 and I will be 38 next month.  My surgery [RNY] is scheduled 6/4/07.  I have yet to see how my sugars are affected by WLS.  I do not have the pump, though.  I would be very interested to see a post from someone with a pump that is post op.  You are doing the right thing getting all the information that you can to make your decision.  Good luck.

Welcome to the board. A wealth of information is here to be had. I have Type 2 diabetes...and since my surgery on Feb 6, 2007, I am off all diabetic meds. I would be interested in seeing if someone with Type 1...would lower their meds or what happens.  Good Luck
