I have been approved for my surgery and it is scheduled for June 27, 2007 with Dr. Poplawski.  I have pre-testing a couple weeks before.  I went to my consultation in early January and weighed 265.  I now weigh about 280.  My question is will I be made to lose weight before my lap RNY? Thanks so much for any reply !!

Some doctors require that you lose weight for a few reasons. You will have to ask his office what is required. If they ask just follow a bariatric diet of two weeks post op. Ahmed

Hi, I'm hoping to get ins. approval and have Dr. Poplawski to do my surgery.  He's great.  I do know that any weight you can lose before surgery will help with the lap rny.  The instruments they use are only so long so that if the liver has had time to shrink some (weight loss causes the liver to shrink in size) it usually goes much better.  But Dr. Pop is the expert on this so you should ask them.  I know that he told me to lose as much as I can before surgery whether it was 1 lb. or 20 lbs.  Any and all weight loss helps with the procedure and recovery!  Hope this helps!
