Hi there, I was wondering if any of you have been through the Beaumont Hospital program, and what I am in store for.  I am going to the seminar on Tuesday night for the first step. They wouldn't give me any info on the phone, pretty much said that the seminar is the beginning.  I am dying for info.  If anybody would care to share, it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks a bunch, Sheryl

Beaumont is great!!!  I didn't go to the seminar though - I had a one-on-one with Dr. Zalesin.  She is awesome.  Everything you need to be successful is right at the Weight Control Center.  Nutrionists, Psychologists, Exercise Physiologists, and follow-up support.  It is awesome, the care you receive is outstanding.  Everybody is great from the nurses to the docs to the desk staff. If you decide to go through with this you will eventually meet with a doc, probably Dr. Zalesin and the with a nutritionist, psychologist and exercise physiologist.  They will schedule these all on the same day if you want.  You will probably have a stress test and an ekg.  Those can be done right at the center also. They have great follow-up support.  The group meetings are very informative.  Everybody is in this together and they all understand.  There is no judgement whatsoever.  It is great, can I say that enough?

After you get through all these steps they will case conference your chart.  Everybody gives their input on you and they decide if surgery will be right for you.  If they decide yes then you will meet with Dr. Krause at Beaumont Royal Oak and he will have another seminar and then will meet with you individually. If you have any more questions feel free to email me, and good luck! sarah

Thanks Sarah.  I sure hope the process doesn't take too long, but it will be well worth it in the end.

I agree....I go through Beaumont - they are very organized, thorough and very informative.  Karen is the Beaumont it girl for the preparation of everything.  I developed a good relationship with her when I first went to the seminar.  She discussed what you need to do regarding insurance and go on from there.  I got my diet history together, a doctor's letter and started scheduling my appts.  I met with Dr. Zalesin, got my tests done, met with NUT, Exercise Phsy., Psych. Eval, blood work all within two visits.  I got the ok literally 3 weeks afterwards.  Met with Dr. Krause, who by the way - IS AMAZING - i cannot stress that enough!!  He scheduled me for a week later.  It took me a month! Good luck with everything.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask....you may PM me if you'd like.  Other than that....enjoy the journey!

 Hugs,

 Shay
Childhood is what you spend the rest of your life trying to overcome... Beginnings are scary.. Endings are usually sad, but its the middle that counts the most. Enjoy every moment before it is too late.
