Can't Burp!

Hi all,    Does anyone else have problems burping? I have that terrible feeling as if I have to burp or throw up. It hits in right in the center of my chest when I am eating; and it becomes unbearably painful. I get up and walk around ect. The other day I was in tears, took a swallow of hubbies pop and it worked. Why does it seem that gas gets stuck at times when I eat? And is it because our stomachs are so much smaller that they can not push the gas out? I really hate that pain and uncomfortable feeling! Sometimes I give anything to BURP; if not then barf.. I never had this problem before surgery! I have had an ulcer and a stricture since surgery; does this have anything to do with it? Sometimes I am just down right miserable! Maybe I am eating to fast???  Any answers appreciated. Thanks, Judy R

Sorry no advice, but if you think a big pat on the back would help, I can do that... I hope you get it out soon.  Tracey

Yep Judy is right and it also helps when you get food stuck also.  Yeah and like Kevin says, eat slower and chew lots.  :-)

I think you are eating to fast and swallowing a little air at the same time. It gets trapped with the food as a stopper and then you can't do anything but wait it out of induce a burp. Smaller bites and chew more. make it into a paste then the air will be able to move around the food and settle in a little better. I hope that helps. kp

This has happened to me a few times. I know it is that I ate too fast and didn't chew enough. After a few "Painful" times at work....and running for the bathroom....I am really chewing chewing chewing.  It is not something I want to happen often. Feels like I am having heart attack or something....but then I "get rid" of the blockage and feel 200% better. Live and learn.

Yep, sounds to me that your eating to fast and too big of bites.  You need to take smaller bites and chew longer.  After over 3 years out from surgery, I still get this time to time and it's because I take too big of bites.  I never tried the laying on your side thing, but you sure could give that a try as well and remember to try your hardest to not drink anything while you are eating.  Best wishes!
