Hello all I was just wondering if any of the WLS patients have had there Gal Bladder removed? My family Dr. said it should have been done when they did the lap rny. I guess it was ok at that time. Last Sunday however it reared it ugly head and I wound up in emergency where my wife works at Genysis. I now have a June 19th date for removal of my said Gal Bladder. The surgeon said for patients with WLS and people who have lost a lot of weight in a short time( 84 lbs since March 21, 07) stones can build up and then BAM it hits.  But I was just wondering if anybody else has had this problem. I had mine removed a year after my surgery. Sometimes they take it out during your surgery depending on if there are issues with it at that time. And yes this is very common for anyone that has lost a large amount of weight like this to have their gall bladder out.

I understand what your family doctor said, but they weren't seeing what the bypass surgery was. My surgeon was going to remove it when I had surgery but changed his mind. He said my liver was very enlarged and you have to move it to get to the gallbladder. He then said once I lose 100 lbs. Well, that never happened either. I am now 2 years post op and not having any troubles and I still have my gallbladder. I'm assuming I still have gallstones, but nothing is making them act up. Lynn

Yep, just came out three days ago (Tuesday).  No stones when I had RNY last July.
