I tried a McDonalds cheeseburger after surgery ~once. It tasted like a giant ball of grease! I couldn't stand the feel or taste of it in my mouth and spit it out. Never put anything that nasty in my mouth again. How far out are you Sherri? I rarely ever feel hungry, and I'm 19 months out. Sometimes I forget to eat. ~never thought that would be a problem. lol Take care. God bless you, Annette

We all get head hunger. We just have to learn how to recognize it. Try asking yourself the following questions before you eat. #1. Am I really hungry? #2 How do I know I'm really hungry? #3. How long ago did I last eat? #4. What and how much did I eat? #5. Do I feel physical hunger pain? Most likely you won't feel real hunger pain this soon out. If the answers to these questions tell you it's time to eat, then eat. If the answers to these questions tell you its not time to eat it's in your head, then ask yourself this. Have I had enough to drink? Often we mistake thirst for hunger. If it's not time to eat yet, try sipping on fluids ~LOTS AND LOTS  OF FLUIDS :0) Remember to stop drinking at least 15 minutes before eating, and wait to drink after eating for at least 30 minutes (some Drs. say 1 hour, ask yours.) If you drink before the time is up, you wash the food out of your pouch and this can cause you to feel hungry and/or want to eat before it's time to eat. Please ask any question you need to ask. That's what we are here for ~to help people that need help. Everyone who has had the surgery was once a newbie themselves. Hopes this helps Sherry. God bless, Annette

Sherry, You might be one of the unlucky post ops, like me, that DO get hungry often.  I am ALWAYS hungry.  I really do envy those that say they feel full all the time. You just have to make really smart choices.  Eating several small meals and snacks a day is fine (at least it is for me) as long as you make sure you get what your body needs.  I know you know about the Mickey D's burger, so I'm not even going to go there.   Be careful you don't fall back into the "grab something quick" method of eating.  That could lead to to a problem in the future.  I try to keep a South Beach protein bar in my purse all the time so I don't head for the drive thru. But.............. don't beat yourself up if you do stray a bit.  One meal won't make or break you.

I used to never feel hungry but I am hungry all the time now it seems. Especially during that time of the month. My WLS has put me on prevacid because he is afraid I might have some gastritis in there going on. But it could be hunger pains that are associated with stress as well. I notice if I am stressed then I tend to want to eat more too. I am shocked that you were able to eat that this close to being out from surgery. I am not going to reprimand you but you need to keep in mind that your pouch is still eating so you need to make sure you make good choices right now that will not hurt your pouch further down the line.

Hey Sherry,      Really be careful; you don't want to hurt yourself or your progress. And here is something for the knowledge of MC D's; there is pure sugar in most everything they serve! In a big Mac there are 18 teasp. of sugar between the bun, meat, and sauce! They have hidden sugar in a lot of their products.Should you eat a lot of this you could get dumping going on. Some safe things at Mc D's might be grilled chic wrap sand., yogart, grilled chic sand., chic salad or jus****er..LOL I know we have all tried and experimented with things we should not. One weak moment does not end or discount all the hard work; it is the many ones that will destroy you. I eat small snacks throughout the day too; but now they are heathy ones. Here are some sugestions: nuts, triscut crackers (lots of flavors, protein, and fiber), high fiber low sugar cereal, yogart, cheese,  beans, protein bars; if you look for a good subsitute you can find one for almost anything. I was a huge snickers bar gal; I now get Atkins choco carmel bar (has protein) and it tastes close enough! I do not do it all the time.. LOL I just know that our hard work and sacarfies have got to count for something. Try not to fall into that old pattern of beating yourself up to where that gives you an excuse to fail, (REMEMBER THIS)? There is nothing wrong with you; you are just learning your new way of life; give yourself a break girlfriend.. Good luck, Judy R

O.k., so I know I'm going to get flamed for this.  However, I need to say it.  NOBODY one month out shoud be eating ANYTHING from McDonalds.  Period.  I know there is temptatation.  I know you want to eat something that tastes good.  However, this should be a HUGE red flag that if you are bowing to the temptatations of "junk food" this close to your surgery date, that there is something wrong.  Stick to high protein foods that aren't full of high fats, and you will be MUCH better off.  Just one person's opinion.  I did't eat the cheeseburger from McDonald's withoiut the bun at about a year out.  You need to take full advantage of the "honeymoon stage" NOW while you can.  I've seen SO many people not be successful after 2 years out.  The majority of them fell into the "trap" early on and they are no longer on the boards.  After a few years, these same people are going back to the board looking for yet another quick fix with shots to make their pouches smaller again.  The ONLY reason I'm even mentioning this is NOT to question you or put you to shame.  God only knows I had my low points and in NO way will bring you to judgement because I know full well the temptation.  I only say this to let you know that I DO care and want to support you.  Not to question what you do or shame you into changing your decisions.  I only ask you to take a close look at your decisions and ask yourself if what you are doing is "part of the program".  Only you can answer that question.  I wish you the best of luck and no matter what you do, I am here to support you!
