I am at an absolute loss ! Here I am 6 wks (tomorrow) out and I just can't get all my protein in or my water ! I have lost 32 lbs, feel great. Had a couple wow moments..... 1. can now cross my legs WOOHOO 2. Am now wearing an XL ! instead of a 2X.  So I had kind of a schedule in mind but wanted some input from you pros. I am great at structure, it's just finding the right one that works and then I have no problem following it and repeating it over and over! So tweak away at this please? One thing: I don't like Tuna and don't like cottage cheese.... other then that i'm open !  Big problem is I am NEVER hungry (big change from my cry for help with my hunger problems huh?) And I get full VERY easily. Is this menu okay even tho I am not getting all my protein or water in? or should I just wait until Thurs when I see my Dr and ask him? Oh btw I have been using Atkins shakes (15g protein for 11oz) up for ideas on that too but i'm picky about taste LOL wake up: water with my chewable calcium and multi morning snack: protein shake water lunch: hardboiled egg and my chewable iron & b12 water afternoon snack: protein shake dinner: 1/2 cup refriend beans with some cheese evening: water with chewable calcium and multi Thank you for all your help ! ~~Rona

Are you kidding me?   steak?????   didn't you just tell me that you're having a hard time with meat?   Maybe you're meaning to make yourself sick or something, steak is the hardest to digest,  you need to stick with softer foods.    boil your meat and cook it to death so it's soft and juicy, maybe even use a pressure cooker.    sherry i think you really need to get some counseling to help you through this.    As time goes on you're going to be right back there in the drive thrus. Sherry I have to agree with Jon and Linda on this one.. I know they are being harsh on you but we are all here for support and we are definately shocked to hear about you eating a cheeseburger this close out. I know you want us to say one thing to you but we cannot when we have all been to where you are at.  Counseling is not that serious of an issue. Alot of patients need therapy after the surgery to deal with the head hunger. This battle is just not with our bodies it has to deal with our heads and why we eat. You need to be more proactive in the approach of when you are hungry try to fill your head with other thoughts or exercise to keep yourself busy.  As far as a schedule for you Rona.. I always ate every 2 hours, my Dr told me to keep eating every couple of hours even if it was a small meal to keep my metabolism up. I have done that and even though I am over 2 years out that is about how long it takes me before I start getting hungry. I have definately trained my body to eat that way.  Hope it helps you guys Suzanne

Sherry:  I don;t mean to come hard on you, but there was no way could I eat what you are eating at your point.  It was soft foods and shakes.  I could not have steak for like 6 months...and then I had to chew it like 100 times.  Be careful. Tracey

I'm sorry people flipped out on your over your steak comment.  I don't usually post because normally, I don't feel I have anything valuable to share.  Today, I feel is an exception. First, follow your doctor's program, but also listen to your body.  I believe I was 6-8 weeks out when I first ate steak and it was fine for me.  This was even during my pureed stage that included meat.  I told Doc, I just couldn't bring myself to eat pureed food, the thought nauseated me.  I was ok'd to cut tiny bites and chew to death until paste and then swallow, which I did.  Beef was the ONLY meat, steak in particular, that didn't make me sick.  I could NOT eat chicken until I was roughly 4 months out, fish at 3 months, but ONLY tuna and salmon (which I hated prior to surgery) because any white fishes seem to get stuck, no matter how much I chew.  I'm now 6 months out and cannot eat plain turkey.  It's fine if it's ground, as in burgers or sausage, but just not on it's own.  A note on the steak...I can't eat just any cut, it MUST be filet mignon, it's the most tender.  Please keep in mind that everyone is different and will require different foods.  Some doc's will say eat cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. but it's common for people to become lactose intolerant after surgery, so what do those people do?  They find alternatives.  Talk to your doc, ask him what he feels is good for you.  My doc wants me to ultimately eat 6-8 small meals a day.  I can't, I don't have enough room, and couldn't get my water in that way.  I now eat 3 small meals a day, and sometimes 1-2 snacks depending on the calories I'm consuming.  By the way, I was eating (still am) burgers as well.  Not from fast food places, but burgers nonetheless.  I just make sure it's a high quality meat with the least fat possible, turkey, soy, or chicken.  Oh, that reminds me...Boca Burgers...VERY easy to chew, high in protein.  Just keep in mind, they don't taste like actual burgers.  If you remember that, you may enjoy them.  Good luck and if you're wanting advice, a listening ear, support, please dont' hesitate to contact me directly...I'm more than happy to share/listen.  Good luck sister and check with your doc! first of all, calcium and iron cannot be taken at the same time, you have to wait like three hours after your iron to take the calcium.   next, you drink your protein as soon as you get out of bed then take your multi( and if no iron in your multi, take calcium) an hour or so later, you eat breakfast around noon your lunch a few hours later a snack, maybe popsicle and your iron and b12 around five eat dinner a few hours later multi, calcium  and a snack before bedtime  protein shake I had a schedule for my water.    I made sure to have 32 ounces by noon, and 32 more by 6 pm.   after that it was just a bonus.    i also had to set my alarm clock to remember to eat.

Well, I must be definely eating too much.  Yesterday for dinner I had swordfish about 3 oz. and boiled red potatoe about 1 whole small.  I could fill probably a measuring cup or maybe 1.5.  For lunch, I had steamed  veggies and a kid's burger patty from Red Robin.  For breakfast, protein shake.  One snack of low fat string cheese. and one shot of protein Pro-Stat.  Question if you are only eating a egg and two ozs of meat per day how do you get in your calories?  I am 4 weeks out as of tomorrow and have lost 31 lbs.  My Dr. says it is important to eat so your body doesn't go into starvation mode.  I listen to my body to tell if I am full.
