I know Linda said not to take your multi and calcium together, but my nut advised me it was ok! I would start your day with your protein shake and then eat a snack with you vits.  How about a peeled apple with some peanut butter for a snack? Also what about a protein shake before bed with the last of your vitamins? Also if you wake up and feel like eating the beans for breakfast go for it!  I don't let time of day dictate to me what I eat LOL!  You could always throw some scrambled eggs with cheese and maybe some deli ham in there too for variety for another meal.  Wendy's chili is great as well.  Just try your best to get in what you can when you can.  In time it will get easier and you will get all of those things in without even thinking about it.

I don't see anywhere in my paperwork (which btw differ and contradict one another) that you should eat protein shakes in place of meals.  My paperwork says to use protein shakes as snacks.  I understand that we need to take avantage of the honeymoon period but are we also suppose to make life changes.  It is not realistic to think that we will eat on protein shakes and I am sure it is not the healthy choice.  I think if possible we should eat foods that provide more nutrition than protein shakes.  One reason that I switched to Pro-Stat liquid protein (60 calories per oz- 15 grams of protein) is so I could eat not drink my meals.  A standard protein drink has anywhere from 100-300 calorie with milk or fruit juice.  I ate tilapia fish, steamed broc. and potatoes and only consumed about 175 calories.  plus I go in 11 grams of protein, + iron and other minerals. Am I wrong?

But at only 6 weeks out, your pouch is still healing and it is very difficult to eat enough food to meet your protein requirement.  I think in the beginning, though I can not speak for everyone, that the majority used protein drinks as the main source of protein.  Now someone that is 4 or 5 months out should most definately be eating most of their protein.  Every program is different though, and some suggest doing things ways others do not suggest. That is however just my 2 cents and everyone needs to follow the instructions from their surgeon and nutritionist!

I am one WHO DID NOT RELY ON PROTEIN SHAKES.  Yes I did them early, but after about a month, I did not drink protein shakes.  My nut recommended them as a snack, not a meal.  I consider myself lucky because I did not have any problems with meat.  Not everyone does.  I could eat burger very early.  I could eat steak....not much mind you, but I could.  I tolerated beef better than any other type of meat.  I can not tolerate fish.  Ate it once and was sick.  EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT!  Just because something worked for someone else, doesn't mean it will work for you.  We are all in this trying to find out what works and what doesn't....what's best for the individual.  By the way, I'm almost two years out.  I've lost 130 pounds.  My blood work has ALWAYS been "perfect" (as my PCP and surgeon says) and I haven't had a protein shake in over a year.  I get all my protein from the food I eat.  Do I fall short some days?  You bet.  Do I get 100% of my water in 100% of the time?  No, but much more often than NOT!  I respect the fact that people are trying to guide others here, but you can't paint everyone with the same brush.
