I have HAP and they paid for my RNY with Dr. Genaw.  You can do this, and you have more than 1 shot.  You have the first level appeal.  They should have sent you a reason why they denied you, which by the way is standard that they will deny you the first time.  If they still deny you after the first appeal, then you have a second level appeal.   So, do not panic.  If you like, you can e-mail me, and I can help you more specifically on your appeal.   There is usually a $1000 co-pay with most policies on the procedures.  Good Luck.  It will happen if you are persistant.  Just do not give up on the first try.     Good Luck.

I also have HAP HMO...and was denied the first time around. Then my Dr and I both wrote and appeal letter and I was approved. If you have any specific questions don't hesitate to email me either. Belive me...the struggle was worth it!!!

HAP is your typical HMO - Hellish Meanies Organization.  I had two denials before the state overturned their decision.  Remember to be clear and to the point.  I even made the offer of some options (ones I could live with) so show them how serious I was.   Good luck!!
