Jodi, the RNY is very much changed from the time your mother had the surgery.  Please keep an open mind when listening to the different surgeries and ask questions.  You might want to bring up the fact about your mother and see what they tell you.  I will say that I was at the orientation with someone who had the lapband and they were revising to the RNY because she had not lost any weight.  Is this the norm?  I don't know, the doctors can explain how it works and what's different between the two surgeries for you.

I think you made a great choice by choosing MMPC. I never had a single  problem with them. I never seen any negative attitue or anything.

I haven't met anyone there that I didn't care for. I had Dr. Foote

and I think he was awesome.

hi jodi...i had dr foote and with all that was wrong inside of me from a previous hernia surgery i am so glad i had dr foote!!! he took care of all the "wrongs" that he found once inside and made it right before he did the RNY and i have no regrets at all!!! i found everyone to be very helpful and knowledgeable at MMPC not to mention kind and caring to me and others!!! so no matter who you choose to have this WLS with at MMPC you are in good hands!!! i didn't have to lose any weight before wls but being on the pre-op diet i did lose several pounds. good luck on your journey....its a wild ride!!!

hugs

Hi Jodi! I did a little research for you.  Dr. Baker has done 59 lap band surgeries (click here to check statistics). Dr. Kemmeter has done 80+ (click here for statistics). Dr. Foote has done 23 (click here for statistics). They are all very competent surgeons, but you will notice that all three have done nearly 1000 RNY surgeries each.  I can't wait to hear how things went at the seminar. Jenn

Thanks so much for all the help you have given me.  I do not know who I will choose.  They all sound great!  I have asked to be added as a friend so I can keep in contact. Thanks so much Jodi

Hi Jodi, Sorry to hear your first appointment with a different office was not "up to Par" on the scale of  an acceptable level of information and comfort.. One thing I will say is you need to be comfortable with your decision and trust in the surgeon and his staff. All offices have good and bad employees and it is possible to catch anyone on a day when they are overstressed and less than pleasant.  I hear you are going through an initial consult- there will be a time for questions either in a group or individual, but remember you are all there trying to find out answers for the same thing. I do want to stress that make sure that if you can get insurance to cover, wait for them- go through the appeal if necessary. Having to self pay if things don't go by the book can be extremely costly(speaking from my own experience.) I would never, suggest anyone self pay if you can take a few months longer and get insurance to cover it.. Even if you are told that you are an excellent candidate( I was told this too)DO your research, get a list of questions ready and be prepared- I  know surgeons like people who are informed and prefer not dealing with patients who are not familiar with what to expect and the changes they will go through. Then again, be knowledgable of the procedure, but still let the doctor explain who they will do it.. Best of luck in your quest for a healthy life. AmyH
