I am on my third day of fasting for surgery.  I am sitting at my desk at work and about to fall asleep.  I have no energy!  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I have to do this until my surgery date of June 22nd.

Hi Annette, You can do this.  I am on day 15 of my liquid diet.  (Surgery tomorrow)  It is the hardest the first 3-5 days, then it will be easier.  Are you making sure you are drinking all of your protein drinks?  If you're doing everything you are supposed to, then exercise is supposed to perk you up.  Try getting up and walking around the office for a few minutes.  You'll get through it.  Good luck! It's probably your body rebelling against all the protein in those points you have to have each day.  It does get better and easier and if all else fails, take a nap when you get home.  I've been know to fall asleep in my chair and boy it sure does refresh me.

Hi Annette I am having my surgery on June 22nd also and I had to start on the "diet" Friday so I am on day 6.  I am having Dr. Foote.  It is hard, I sure agree.  But it does get a  l i t t l e easier.  Just try and think on the prize - our surgery that we have worked and waited for.   See you on 4-C next Friday!!!!!! Hey Annette,     We all go through the same frustrations, hunger; and feelings. Hang tough and remember the goal at the end. It gets easier after about the fourth or fifth day. I had my melt downs too. Best wishes to your sucess. Hugs, Judy R

It gets better after a week, trust me. Keep your eyes on the prize. The hardest part for me was giving up caffeine cold turkey when I had to get up at 3 a.m., plus go through the fast. But I stuck it out, and you will too. Naps work; take a walk on your break (if you get one); splash cold water on your face to perk yourself up. But stick with the plan because it's for your benefit in the long run. Good luck to you! I did this three years ago to to the day (started it June 15, by the way, had my surgery June 29); have lost 177 pounds. It has changed my life. You can do it too.
