Hello all .. I have a queston.. when you went in for the Lap Band. did you have to have a catheter??  The Doc I went and seen last Friday said he does this. I'm wondering if the Dr's at MMPC do this too. Pleae let me know.. not to thrilled if they do... and if the do.. I MUST be put out first... Thanks

The catheter is put in while you are out cold in the operating room.  It comes out not too long after you get awake.  I think this is pretty common practice now since it's a lot easier to have the urine go into a bag instead of trying to clean you and the operating table up.

I agree with the previous post. Its really not bad. I remember being anxious about it too before surgery but you never see it go in and and comes out pretty quick and painlessly. While it was in I hardly noticed it was there.

I had a catheter that was put in after I was anesthetized.  Never felt a thing, lol.  I was happy it was there for the first few hours so I didn't have to get up.  It came out within a few hours and I only felt a slight pulling sensation.  In the grand scheme of things, it was a very small detail.

Like they said you will have a catheter put in but you will be far away in sleep land! and youll wake up and not even know its there till they tell you and then they will take it out, which is no biggie!  Jamie

Thanks for all the responces.  Just the thought of someone down there.. freaks me out.. especially when I am UNAWARE!!!  Oh how I hope I dont have to have one.  I am very very modest... and that is the only part of surgery I am not going to like... Uggh! Thanks everyone...

Ummmm....right before my surgery I was TOTALLY naked and had to get on a big blow up thingie on the table.  There were about 6 people in the room messing with me getting me prepped.  Just like when you have a baby, you are going to have to throw all modesty out the window if you are having surgery.  Trust me, a cath is not going to be the worst part of surgery.  Don't sweat the small stuff!

OMG... if this is the case.. I better take a triple dose of xanax!! or they better have me so drugged I dont care what they do to me.  I have only had one "girlie" Dr appointment in my life... and was scared to death!!!  NOT looking foward to being nekked...**Big Sigh** As for the baby thing.. that is different... they are getting someting out from down there.. my surgerie is for my stomach.. no need to be down there...
