post TT swelling
I am looking for suggestions to reduce swelling after my TT. This Thursday will be 3 weeks post and over all things are healing great. However my stomach is still very numb ( I know this will take awhile to go away) but the swelling in the evening hours is really getting uncomfortable. I am still wearing the binder as I also had a small hernia repair. HELP!! Send tips to help reduce the swelling.
I noticed my swelling was always worse on days where I tried to be up moving too much too early. It was seriously six weeks before I felt strong enough to actually have a normal routine, but not knowing that in advance I was back to work in two!!! Needless to say I swelled too. I also found that my binder rubbed some of the incisions and irritated them so I bought some of the support panties and that helped a lot with the comfort too. Make sure you get lots of water to push the bad stuff out and rest when your body tells you it wants too.
Good Luck! Mary
Thanks for the tips. I am really trying to take it easy. I am not very good at "sitting" around. Since having my RNY in 2004. I have so much energy. I did plan my TT for summer so I could be home with my kids and I have Aflac thru work so I am off for 12 weeks. Just trying to be patient is a challange.
I had my original TT Oct 06 and a scar revision May 07 and can say I agree with Wendy very much.
This takes TIME to heal, it is possible even months. I recommend sleeping with a pillow and even wearing your binder or garment whenever possible.
I am still feeling sensations of numbness and also pulling but it isn't unbearable.
To reduce the swelling? That might be impossible since it was brought on by surgery but lowering your salt intake and walking alot more are two things I did.
Let me tell you post op Oct TT, I looked like a helium balloon for the Thanksgiving Day parade..............it takes time just be patient.

I had my tummy tuck in Feb and my swelling is finally almost gone. My surgeon said that it takes almost 6 months to a year for normal results and to get the feeling back . I still have pain if I over do it. I bought control top panties with firm support and I wore my binder for almost 3 months because of the good tight support. Make sure that you take it easy and alot of movement causes swelling and fluid build up. Take it one day at a time and it will get better. Hugs Tricia
