WLS must NOT be for me!!!!
Jodi, have you been on a medically supervised diet for at least 6 months before this? Has your doctor been keeping up with your weight loss tries? If so, then you will probably not have to go on too much of a diet, just the 2 weeks before surgery to shrink your liver. If not, it's probably your insurance company that will dictate how long you will have to diet. Does this mean you have to do the one that you buy all the food? No, it just means that you go on a 1,200 calorie a day, low carb diet and have your PCP document your weight loss/gain for the next 6 months or however long your insurance company says.
I'm sorry that you ended up in the wrong seminar but I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. In the meantime, you might want to check with your insurance company to see what their requirements are. You will have to do this anyway after the seminar so just get a jump on it. If you have to do the diet, get scheduled with your pcp for the start of the documentation or at least have your pcp get the documentation ready for the insurance company. There's lots of papers to fill out and all this info is part of it so you have a little bit of time to start gathering. I found it hard to remember all the diets and years that I was on them but my pcp had a pretty good record of what I had done and when and I just added the weigh****chers and other diets I did on my own going back to my teen years. I met the requirements without needing to do anything else.

I had to laugh when you said you ran into an HR person at your seminar. I too had decided not to tell a lot of people. I went to a seminar at U OF M and ran into someone that I knew and it turned out his wife was the aunt of someone else I work with. I went to 3 seminars all at different hospitals on the advice of my doctor. They were really worthwhile because I learned a ton of stuff and each one triggered more questions to ask. When I originally heard about this surgery I said no way no how. Then I decided to go to a seminar and thought I may consider the lapband but not the by pass. Now after the seminars I have decided on the RNY.
So sorry to hear about your experience! GEEZ - that's crazy. I went to SEVERAL centers for seminars to get a "feel" for them. I met with several doctors as well. Especially if you decide on the LapBand, there is a lot more after-care, and you want a center that is ON the ball with fills and stuff. I would check out a few more centers, a few more doctors....
-Maggie- A "STUCK" episode is kinda like the big "O". If you have to ask, you probably didn't have one.
