I am wondering if anyone can tell me how long it took them to go back to work with the Lap RNY?  At the Barix Clinic they told me 4-8 weeks.  That is what I told my employer.  Oh... thanks to everyone that gave me words of advice and encouragement on my surgery for next Wednesday.

Hi My doctor's office filled out my FMLA paperwork for 2 - 4 weeks and I plan on going back after 2 weeks.  They told me some people even go back after one week.  I think it varies a lot with the individual (getting the surgery) and with the various doctors. Good Luck to you!!! Lynn

It depends on what type of work you are talking about.  I went back to a desk job part-time after 2 weeks.  I was real tired, but it was possible.  If you have a physical job, 4-6 weeks is probably a good guess. Jon

I took off 5 weeks, but I could have gone back after 2 with my desk job. But was nice to get into a bit of a routine and making sure you get your protein and water in....if you can afford to....take the time.

I had lap RNY at Barix on 6/6, I got my return to work letter at my appt on 6/18.  I was ready to go bank and have not had any problems.   My co workers have been extremely supportive through all of this.  We normally eat in office, but some have offered to leave the office to eat so it would not bother me.  I told them it doesn't bother me, and it is something I have no problem dealing with.   Wish you the best.   Pam

Thank you all for the input.  I have a desk job, however it is very stressful at times and I am up and down all day.  I am worried I will forget to drink my water or not have enough time for my extra meals.

I was able to go back after 2 weeks part time.  My job is very physical working in the sign shop lifting heavy signs and digging holes so I had to take it easy for a while. I put my water right where I would almost be bumping into it so I would remember to drink it.  I took a small insulated lunch bag with me with things I could eat easily every few hours.  Your body will let you know how much you can do. Good luck to you on your journey!
